TROY — In sports there are all types of streaks. Troy Bethany Christian has put together quite a streak on the soccer pitch in recent years..

The Bruins moved their unbeaten streak inside the Fundamental Baptist Athletic Conference Red Division to 30 games Tuesday with a 7-0 blanking of visiting Rochester Hills Christian..

The win also clinched Bethany Christian’s fifth straight FBAC-Red title..

“Winning the league is something that we shoot for every year,” said Bethany Christian coach Phillip Fougere. “We did a great job this season. We had a lot of shutouts and we’ve beaten a lot of these teams (handily)..

“We haven’t lost in the league in over four year and the streak is at 30,” added Fougere. “That’s a (testament) to the kids and how hard they’ve worked the past couple of years.”.

Troy Bethany (15-2-1, 8-0-0) kept Rochester Hills on its heels the whole contest. After beating the Eagles 2-0 last month, the Bruins did not let Rochester Hills post any type of threat in the final league game for both teams..

Senior midfielder Travis Woodham led the way with three goals and an assist, upping his season total to 28 goals. Sophomores Noah Francis and Ryan Woodham added single goals and juniors Tyler Parsons and Daniel Sprankle also scored for the Bruins..

Senior John Gronow and junior Mark Bishop anchored the Bruins’ backfield which pitched six shutouts in league play and allowed just two goals in eight conference matches..

Troy Bethany will wrap up the regular season Friday with a non-conference game at Temperance Stateline Christian. .

The Bruins will enter next week’s Michigan Association of Christian Schools Division I state tournament on Oct. 22 with a sectional game at Troy Boulan Park as the No. 1-ranked team. Awaiting in the wings is the winner of the Midland Christian-Gladwin Skeels Christian sectional contest..

“We have never won the MACS title in boys soccer,” reminded Fougere. “I don’t think we’ve ever been the No. 1 seed before. Last year we lost in the (state) semifinals. I know the goal this year is to win it all.”
