FOWLERVILLE — Bloomfield Hills Lahser and Auburn Hills Avondale have both made long runs in the boys soccer postseason in recent years. So it was fitting that they met for the district title game Saturday at Fowlerville..

Lahser, ranked in the top 10 in the state in Division 2 the whole season, repeated as a district champion for the second straight year with a 3-2 victory over the Yellowjackets, who had spent some time as honorable mention in the polls this season..

“It marked the fifth straight year that Avondale played for a district title, but the Yellowjackets only won a title in 2007, the year they eventually reached the Elite Eight. Lahser has reached the Final Four three times in the past 11 seasons..

“At least we are getting there because that’s not easy to do,” offered veteran Avondale coach Dave Muczynski. “This was a good game against tow good team. Lahser was able to beat us this time.”.

Lee Elisevich netted the game-winner off a deflection after a pass by Mike Henderson to lift Lahser (17-4-2) into Tuesday’s regional semifinals at Mason against Dexter..

Avondale (13-7-1) struck first in the first half, when Dylan Kennedy scored unassisted. Henderson tied the score moments later for the Knights..

Jake Landis put Lahser up 2-1 late in the first half, only to see the Yellowjackets knot the score at 2-2 by the half thanks to a tally from Nathan Chapman. Ryan Williams drew the assist on the game-tying goal..

Evan Wahl finished with for Lahser, while Tyler Koontz had nine saves for Avondale..

“It was a great game. Sure, we lost, but I can’t complain about our effort,” said Muczynski, whose team also finished third in the OAA White Division this season. “Lahser is always a good team. They had some chances and we had some chances. They had a goal bounce off someone’s face. That stuff happens.”.
