Warriors spiked in USCAA national semifinals

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The end of the road came Monday for Rochester College’s volleyball team.

The Warriors reached the national semifinals of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association women’s volleyball tournament before falling to eventual champion Florida College at the Mid-America Sports Center at Spaulding University.

Florida swept Rochester College, 3-0, earning scores of 25-21, 25-16, 25-13 in the semifinals. In the third place game, the University of Dallas posted a 3-1 win over Rochester College, earning a 13-25, 25-16, 25-11, 26-24 triumph.

Florida College went on to defeated Spaulding in the finals for the national title.

Junior Traci Taylor (Sterling Heights) earned All-Tournament honors for the Warriors, who finished the season with a 29-24 overall record.

Against Florida College, Katelyn Cosio had eight kills and Katie Wiegand added six kills and 15 digs. Emily Rajter had 18 digs, Traci Taylor picked up 26 assists and Breana Studholme had five blocks and our kills for the Warriors.

Against Dallas, Wiegand had 11 kills on 15-for-31 attacking and Niki McKerracher added seven kills for Rochester College. Taylor added 23 assists, Emily Rajter picked up 30 digs and 37 serve receptions and Wiegand also had 21 digs for the Warriors.

In pool play, Rochester College finished 3-01, downing Lindenwood University-Belleville (25-11, 25-9), Penn State-Fayette (25-12,25-21) and Ohio State-Marion (25-20, 24-26, 15-9) while losing to Spalding University (21-25, 29-27, 15-9).

In the quarterfinals, the Warriors downed in-state rival Marygrove College (25-15, 20-25, 25-12, 25-22) to reach the semifinals.
