Drews’ bombs helps Northwest defeat Clarenceville; Szydlowski helps Rochester Hills topple West Highland

ROCHESTER HILLS — Nathan Drews hit six three-pointers Thursday, including one as time expired, in leading Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest’s boys basketball team to a 64-62 non-league victory over Livonia Clarenceville.

Drews, a sophomore, finished with a game-high 22 points for the Crusaders. Gursher Rathore added 14 points and Mike Miller contributed 10 points for the Crusaders (2-2).

Damian Quarles scored 14 points for Clarenceville (2-2), while v added nine points.

Northwest led 19-8 after the first quarter, but Clarenceville clawed back to within 31-25 with a 17-12 second-quarter run. Both teams traded off 15 points in the third quarter, setting up a wild fourth-period where Clarenceville outscored Northwest 22-18 and held a one-point lead inside 10 seconds.

ROCHESTER HILLS CHRISTIAN 71, MILFORD WEST HIGHLAND CHRISTIAN 61: DJ Szydlowski had 21 points, 22 rebounds, seven assists, and five steals to lead the Eagles in the non-league game. Nathan Simon had 15 points, four assists and four steals, while Nick Patton had 13 points, six rebounds, and three blocks for Rochester Hills Christian (4-3).

WATERFORD OUR LADY OF THE LAKES 82, WYANDOTTE MOUNT CARMEL 10: Jeff Grenn scored 19 to lead four Lakers in double figures. Austin Karbowski added 17 points, Jim Hingst had 14 points and Garrett Ross chipped in with 13 points for WOLL (3-3, 2-1), which opened the game with a 35-5 run. It was 57-7 at the half.

AUBURN HILLS CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 45, PORT HURON NEW LIFE CHRISTIAN 25: The Cougars opened with a 20-4 run and never looked back in this non-league win. Bobby Elliott scored a game-high 20 points and Austin Taylor added 10 points for Auburn Hills Christian (2-0). Josiah Webber twined 10 points for New Life (0-2), which trailed 24-4 at the half.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

LAKE ORION 42, NORTH FARMINGTON 34: Lake Orion used a 26-10 second half to earn this OAA Red Division win over the Raiders. Laura Turnbull led Lake Orion (4-3, 3-2) with 13 points, Marissa Secontine added 12 points to lead the Dragons. North Farmington (3-4, 1-3) led 24-16 at the half on the strength of seven threes. Jasmine Harris led the way with 14 points for North Farmington.

ROCHESTER HILLS CHRISTIAN 59, MILFORD WEST HIGHLAND CHRISTIAN 18: The Eagles flew past the Mustangs Thursday in this non-conference game Thursday in Milford. Junior guard Allise Dubay led the charge with 14 points, eight steals and five assists, while Megan Steiner added 11 points and 13 rebounds for Rochester Hills Christian (5-0).

OXFORD 41, OAK PARK 25: Oxford captured its second straight win Thursday with this 16-point decision over the Knights in OAA White Division play. Michelle Gilmore led the way with 12 points and Maranda Murphy chipped in with eight points for the Wildcats (2-6, 2-3), who led 20-11 at the half and closed with a 15-5 run. Jae’la Richardson scored nine for Oak Park (2-4, 2-1).

CLARKSTON 48, PONTIAC 46: Clarkston came out of the break and captured its second win of the week Thursday, downing the Phoenix in this tight OAA Red Division tussle. Lindsey Reppuhn drilled a trio of 3-pointers and led the Wolves with 15 points. Megan Hastings added nine points and Christina Jokisch scored eight for Clarkston (4-4, 3-4), which outscored Pontiac 17-13 in the fourth quarter to pull ahead. Pontiac, which used a 18-5 third-quarter run to go up 33-31, was led by Breonna House’s 13 points. Brittany Alston added nine points for the Phoenix.

WATERFORD OUR LADY OF THE LAKES 75, ROYAL OAK SHRINE 41: The top-ranked Lakers remained unbeaten with another convincing win Thursday. Lauren Robak pumped in a game-high 28 points to pace WOLL (6-0, 2-0 CHSL), which led 17-3 after the first quarter and 39-19 at the half. Lexie Robak nailed eight 3-pointers and Ava Doetsch added 12 points for the Lakers. Halle Wangler scored 20 for Shrine (6-3, 0-2).
