Two Southeast Michigan coaches, Dan Costigan and Bruce Rosengren, were recently inducted into the Michigan High School Ski Coaches Association Hall of Fame. They were honored at the annual meeting held in Clare, Mich.
Costigan was inducted posthumously having passed away late this summer. Costigan’s wife Patty accepted the honor. He was one of the founders of the Birmingham Detroit Country Day ski team and head coach for the past 26 years. He had earned many honors and awards over his tenure with the team and had filled several roles with MHSSCA and the Southeast Michigan Ski League.

Rosengren is in his fifth year as head coach at Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood and was head coach at Clarkston for 10 years. Rosengren has coached teams to 14 regional championships, named MHSSCA Regional Coach of the Year and State Coach of the Year multiple times. He served as President and Executive Board Member of the MHSSCA.

“To have two coaches who are good friends and have worked together for over 15 years, to be inducted into the Hall of Fame together is a rare honor.” said Rosengren. “The unique camaraderie of the Pine Knob coaches working together have benefited all the athletes there. Recent results show seven individual state champions, several state qualifiers and a state champion team.”

The Pine Knob Division of the Southeast Michigan Ski League consists of Detroit Country Day, Cranbrook Kingswood, Clarkston, and seven other schools calling Pine Knob home. SEMSL also includes high school ski teams at Mt. Holly, Alpine Valley and Mt. Brighton.
