TUESDAY’S ROUNDUP: Troy cruises past Groves; Clarkston falls to Flint Northern

TROY — Behind a 23-7 first quarter and a 26-8 third quarter, Troy had little problems with Birmingham Groves Tuesday in a 73-49 OAA crossover boys basketball victory over Birmingham Groves.

John Stibich pumped in a game-high 22 points, including five three-pointers, to pace the Colts (7-2). James Young followed with 16 points, and both Evan Mahone and Jeff Holmes scored nine for the Colts.

Justin Meredith scored 13 and Emmanuel Thomas added 10 points for Groves (2-6).

FLINT NORTHERN 53, CLARKSTON 51: The offensive e struggles continued for Clarkston Tuesday, as the Wolves dropped this non-league decision to host Flint Northern. After trailing 37-36 entering the fourth quarter, the Vikings used a 17-14 run to win the contest. Mark Smith scored 18and both Stephen David and Mark Fisher scored 12 apiece for Northern (2-3). Marcus Hardy led Clarkston with 15 points. Nick Tatu added 13 points and both Max Collins and Jordan Dasuqi chipped in with eight points apiece for Clarkston (2-4).

CLARKSTON EVEREST COLLEGIATE 41 RIVERVIEW GABRIEL RICHARD 32: The Mountaineers moved to 4-2 on the year, using a 17-10 fourth-quarter run to blow open a tight game. Everest led 24-22 through three quarters. Mitch Lasceski scored 12, Ben Marcial  added 10 points and Blake Beauchamp chipped in with seven points for the Mountaineers, who are 3-2 in the CHSL A-East. Braden Walter and Noah Smylowski scored eight apiece for Richard.

AUBURN HILLS OAKLAND CHRISTIAN 57, LUTHERAN WESTLAND 43: The Lancers remained unbeaten on the road Tuesday with this MIAC Blue Division win over the Warriors. After trailing 17-13 through the first quarter, Oakland Christian outscored Westland 33-18 over the middle two frames to pull into a comfortable lead before outscoring the Warriors 11-8 in the fourth quarter. Josh Peterson scored 17 to lead the Lancer (5-0, 2-0). Nathan Pisecki added 13 points and John Van Nord twined nine points for Oakland Christian. Micha Reum finished with 13 points for Westland (1-5, 0-2).

WATERFORD OUR LADY OF THE LAKES 68, DETROIT CRISTO REY 64 (OT): The Lakers outscored Cristo Rey 10-6 in overtime to pull out this CHSL victory Tuesday in Waterford. Garrett Ross scored 26 points and Austin Karbowski added 22 points to lead WOLL (5-3). Mark Champion scored 29 and Nick McCraney added 22 points for Cristo Rey. WOLL led 34-24 at the half, only to see Cristo Rey claw back with a 34-24 second half, including a 26-8 third-quarter run.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

ROCHESTER STONEY CREEK 53, LAKE ORION 29: Stoney Creek bounced back from a four-point loss to Troy last week with this lopsided OAA Red Division triumph Tuesday over the Dragons. The Cougars led 15-5 at the first quarter and 27-15 at the half and were in control throughout. Stoney Creek (3-5, 3-4) outscored Lake Orion 26-15 in the second half. Gabby Yurik scored 13, Lauren Bolhuis added 10 points and Emily Wood scored nine for Stoney Creek. Marisa Secontine finished with 11 points points and Maddie Hutchinson chipped in with seven points for Lake Orion, which finished just 8-for-10 from the foul line (4-4, 2-2).

FARMINGTON HILLS HARRISON 42, OXFORD 9:
Oxford was held to just three field goals and three free throws in this OAA White Division contest Tuesday against the league-leading Hawks. Tiera Parker scored 17 for Harrison, which led 21-9 at the half and held Oxford scoreless in the second half. Marissa Cotton added seven points. Maddy Line scored four for Oxford (2-5, 2-2).

AUBURN HILLS AVONDALE 57, SOUTHFIELD 23: Avondale, honorable mention in the Class A Associated Press polls, won for the seventh straight time and remained in a first-place tie with Harrison in the OAA White Division. Moriah Schroll scored 14 to lead a balanced attack for Avondale (7-1, 4-0). Quennece Garrison added eight points, Yasmin Williams chipped in with seven points and Morgan James followed with six points for Avondale, which opened with a 16-2 run and led 35-8 at the half. Noelle Hairston scored seven for Southfield (1-7, 0-3).

TROY ATENS 43, ROCHESTER 31: Haley Svircina scored 13, Jenna O’Dell added 11 points and Sinclair Russell followed with nine points for Athens in this OAA Red Division win. The Red Hawks outscored Rochester in three of four quarters and built a 26-13 lead by the half. Katie Steffens scored 10 and Teqwazha Terry added seven for Rochester (7-1, 4-1).

WEST BLOOMFIELD 51, ROCHESTER ADAMS 48 (OT): West Bloomfield outscored Adams 6-3 in the extra session to prevail in this OAA White Division contest. Adams had closed with a 16-8 fourth-quarter spurt to force overtime but could not carry the momentum over into the final four minutes. Kheri Motley scored 15, Jazlyn Lindsay added 10 points and Sydni Davis chipped in with eight points for the Lakers (8-1, 3-1), who failed to pull away in regulation by shooting a 11-for-28 from the foul line. Jocelyn McDougal scored 13 for Adams, which shot only 8-of-17 from the charity stripe.
