FRIDAY’S PREP ROUNDUP: Rochester Hills rips Lake Orion Baptist; WOLL edges Everest Collegiate

ROCHESTER HILLS — Rochester Hills Christian rebounded from its first league loss of the season to post a 71-37 rout of Lake Orion Baptist in FBAC Red Division play.

DJ Szydlowski poured in 20 points and had five rebounds and five blocks to pace the Eagles (5-4, 2-1). Josh West had 18 points and five steals and Nathan Simon added 10 points, five assists and five steals for Rochester Christian.

Connor Welby had 13 points and Elijah Cone added six points for Lake Orion Baptist (0-7, 0-3).

WATERFORD OUR LADY OF THE LAKES 47  CLARKSTON EVEREST COLLEGIATE 40: The host Lakers outscored Everest Collegiate 29-21 in the second half to earn this CHSL crossover win. Everest held a 19-18 lead at the half. Garrett Ross scored the nets for a game-high 26 points for lead WOLL. Austin Karbowski added 11 points for the Lakers. Richie Cross led the Mountaineers with 14 points, Blake Beauchamp added seven points and Noah Beauchamp added six points for Everest (4-3), which finished just 9-of-21 from the foul line. Lakes shot 12-of-17 from the foul line.
ROCHESTER ADAMS 67, LAKE ORION 50: The visiting Highlanders opened the game on an 18-1 tear and never looked back in posting this OAA White Division road rout Friday.

Adams (5-2, 4-2) led 30-20 at the half and never allowed the dragons to pose a serious threat in the second half.

“After we played so poorly Tuesday against (Auburn Hills) Avondale, we came out really to play in this game,” said Adams coach John Hall. “We were really fired up. They scored six points in the last minute of the quarter. Other than that we were all over them in the first quarter.”

Andrew Hammett scored a game-high 22 points for Adams, while Mario Roveda added 14 points for the Highlanders. No Dragons finished in double figures for Lake Orion (1-6, 1-4).

AUBURN HILLS CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 51, TROY CHIRSTIAN LEADERSHIP ACADEMY 30: Taylor Barton collected a triple-double by scoring a game-high 25 points, grabbing 10 rebounds passing for 10 assists to lead Auburn Hills Christian to the non-league win. Bobby Elliott scored 10 and grabbed a record 25 rebounds for the Cougars (6-0).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

ROCHESTER HILLS CHRISTIAN 51, LAKE ORION BAPTIST 30: The host Eagles remained unbeaten on the year with this FBAC Red Division win. Megan Steiner had 10 points and eight rebounds, Allise DuBay added eight points, eight steals and six assists and Caroline Milsk chipped in with 12 points for Rochester Hills Christian (7-0, 3-0). Brianne Watterworth had 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead Lake Orion Baptist (1-3, 1-3).

TROY 59, NORTH FARMINGTON 46: Troy bounced back from a loss to Clarkston earlier in the week with this road win over the Raiders Friday. The Colts led 25-21 at the half and outscored North Farmington 34-25 in the second half.  Liz Siepker scored 18, Karin Moss added 16 points and Katy McCuish chipped in with 10 points for Troy (7-3, 6-2). Jasmine Harris made five 3-pointers and finished with 23 points, but no other North Farmington player scored more than five points. The Raiders slipped to 5-5 and 3-4.

BIRMINGHAM GROVES 46, OXFORD 34: Oxford rebounded from a nine-point loss from earlier in the week, but enough to topple the Falcons. Sam Myers and Michelle Gilmore each led Oxford (2-6, 2-3) with 10 points.

“Our girls fought to the bitter end but we just couldn’t get over the hump,” said Oxford coach Al Poynter. “While we are taking some lumps, we are gaining valuable experience that will pay off for us as long as keep working hard, staying positive, and staying together as a team.”

TROY BETHANY CHRISTIAN 39, CLINTON TOWNSHIP FAITH CHRISTIAN 28: Three days after seeing its 36-game league unbeaten streak come to an end, Bethany Christian rebounded to post this 11-point FBAC Red Division triumph. Bethany was led by Lianna Sprankle with 10 points while Sarah Bishop added eight points for the Bruins (5-2, 2-1), who had nine players reach the scoring column. Bethany opened a 13-6 run and led 21-8 at the half. Faith, which outscored the Bruins 20-18 in the second half, picked up 14 points from Stephanie Zinner and 12 points from Emily Hinsenkamp.
