TROY— For the moment, Troy is in the pole position.

The Colts took over the league lead in the OAA White Division boys basketball race Firday, topping Auburn hills Avondale 70-63 and avenging a league loss from back in December.

Rochester Stoney Creek’s upset of Ferndale also put Troy in sole lead, with four weeks to go.

James Young scored a team-high 22 points to lead Troy (11-2, 8-2). John Stibich added 14 points and Evan Mahone scored 10 for Troy, as the trio combined for nine three-pointers. Al Wise also scored eight and Al Wise added seven points for the Colts.

Troy led 37-32 at the half thanks to a 24-18 run in the second quarter. The Colts added Avondale, which led 14-13 after eight minutes to play, outscored Troy 18-16 in the final frame, but did not have enough in the tank to forge overtime.

Ray Tillman scored 25 points to lead Avondale (10-3, 8-3). Tony Harris added 19 points and Ryan Brancheau scored six for the Yellowjackets.
