OXFORD — There’s a new champion in the Oakland Activities Association cheerleading circles.

For the first time since 1995, a team other than Rochester captured the overall OAA Red Division championship.

Rochester Stoney Creek did the trick Saturday, winning the league meet with a 791.0672 points. That total, coupled with an earlier OA-Red Jamboree win, gave the Cougars the title outright.

Defending champion Rochester was a close second with 789.6280 points and finished second in the final overall standings.

Rochester had won or shared every league title from 1996-2010, a total of 15 straight. The Falcons last failed to win at least a share of the league title 16 years ago, finishing second to Rochester Adams in the first school year of the OAA.

Stoney Creek picked up rounds of 231.1, 250.3672 and 209.6 to win the conference meet for the first time.

Lake Orion, which did not compete in the first OAA Jamboree, finished third in the conference tournament with 783.3000 points. Rochester Adams (776.4024), Troy (764.3984) and Troy Athens (749.4560) rounded out the team scores.

Rochester had the highest total in Round I (232.2), but the Falcons dipped to third in Round II (249.6280) and only had the runner-up total in Round III (249.6280).

Lake Orion finished in the top three in each round, with totals of 230.0 (third), 250.3000 (second) and 305.0 (third).
