Rochester College holds down No. 1 seed for USCAA national tournament
UNIONTOWN, Pa. — In Garth Pleasant’s final year as head coach of Rochester College’s men’s basketball team, his Warriors will play with a large target on their backs for the upcoming United States Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Men’s Basketball National Tournament.
A national powerhouse going back to the 1980s, Rochester College was given the No. 1 seed for the tournament, which will be held at Penn State-Fayette March 1-5 in Uniontown.
Joining RC in the Division I field will be, in order of seeds, Southern Virginia University, Oakwood University, Washington Adventist University, Ave Maria University, Lindenwood University-Belleville, Margrove College and Spalding University.
Last year’s champ, Talladega College, is not in this year’s field.
In the Division II field, Vermont Tech holds down the No. 1 seed for the USCAA Division II tournament. Vermont Tech is followed by UC-Clermont, Williamson College, Berkeley Collge (N.Y.), Andrews University, NHTA, Southern Maine, Penn State Beaver, Miami University-Hamilton and host Penn State-Fayette.
In the women’s field, Rochester College earned the No. 2 seed. The Warriors were the national runner-up last season.
Ave Maria University is the top seed, with Robert Morris-Springfield and Southern Viginia earning the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds, respectively.
Spalding, Briarcliffe College, Penn State-Beaver, UC-Clermont, Penn State-Bandywine, The Apprentice School, Penn State Fayette and Southern Maine round out the women’s field.
