Still on the ice: Clarkston, Lake Orion, Stoney Creek all reach regional finals

BLOOMFIELD HILLS — Clarkston left no suspense in Thursday’s Division 1 regional semifinal against Flint Kearsley.

The Wolves, who finished the regular season on a three-game skid, posted its second straight postseason win at the Detroit Skate Club, icing Flint Kearsley 8-0

Clarkston scored four goals in the first period, then tacked on two goals in both the second and third periods to sting the Hornets.

Joshua Sowers scored what proved to be the game-winner only 2:41 into the contest and Dillon Drayer scored the next three goals to record the hat trick for the Wolves

Adam Larkin added two goals and two assists, the same total as Austin Morse. Brad Pizzey added four helpers, while Adam Johns and Connor Hughes had tow assists apiece.

Jack Viazanko finished the night with only seven saves for the shutout for Clarkston, which held a commanding 41-7 saves advantage.

Kearsley reached the Division 2 state quarterfinals last season but the Hornets were moved up to D-1 this season.

Clarkston will face Bay City United at 5 p.m. Saturday night Perani Arena in Flint for the regional championship.

LAKE ORION 4, ROCHESTER UNITED 1: After falling behind 1-0 midway through the second period, Lake Orion scored four unanswered goals

Lake Orion will face Macomb Dakota for the regional championship Saturday night at the Great Lakes Arena in St. Clair Shores.

Lake Orion outshot Rochester United 41-11.

The Dragons advance to the regional finals at 7:15 p.m. Saturday night at Great Lakes Arena.

Michael Potoniec gave Rochester a 1-0 lead only 1:14 into the second period.

The Dragons tied it up at the 8:26 mark of the second frame with a power play goal by Danny Blascak. Jesse Cameron netted the go-ahead goal the 9:02 mark to put the Dragons in the lead for good.

Cameron scored the third goal, while Corbin Rainey, who had two assists on the night, cashed in on an empty netter late in the contest to send the Dragons into the regional finals for the second straight year and fourth time in program history.

Dominic Juncaj finished the night with 10 saves for the win between the pipes for Lake Orion,

ROCHESTER STONEY CREEK 8, MACOMB L’ANSE CREUSE NORTH 0: The Cougars continued their march through the Division 2 postseason, posting its second straight mercy-shortened regional victory at The Onyx.

The Cougars (13-13-0) will face Port Huron Northern, a 3-1 winner over Romeo on Thursday, at 7 p.m. Saturday night at the Onyx for the regional championship. It marks the second straight year and third time in four years Stoney Creek has played for a regional title.

CLARKSTON 5, GRAND BLANC 3: Clarkston opened up the Division 1 state tournament Tuesday with a 5-3 victory over Grand Blanc at the Detroit Skate
Club.

BIRMINGHAM UNITED 6, TROY ATHENS 2: Five days after defeating Birmingham in the seventh-place game of the OAA tournament, Birmingham gained some revenge Wednesday in a Division 1 regional semifinal at the Birmingham Ice Arena with this decisive win.

BLOOMFIELD HILLS CRANBROOK KINGSWOOD 8, AUBURN HILLS AVONDALE 0: The Yellowjackets ran into a buzz saw in the first round of the Division 1 regional Tuesday, falling to the state powerhouse Cranes in a mercy-shortened pre-regional.
