GIRLS SOCCER ROUNDUP: Adams gets offensive on Clarkston; Avondale rolls

CLARKSTON — Rochester Adams is proving that it is not going to be easy to knock off as OAA Red Division girls soccer champions. The Highlanders are still unbeaten this year.

After winning the league title last season with only two seniors in the starting lineup, the Highlanders moved to 3-0-2 on the year with an impressive 6-0 shutout of host Clarkston Thursday.

The Wolves (0-2-2), which won the OAA White Division title last season with an unbeaten record (9-0-1) made the leap up the OAA-Red but were not match for Adams in this encounter. The Highlanders defeated Clarkston in last year’s district finals, 3-1.

Adams scored twice in the first half and tacked on four more wind-aided goals in the second half to remain atop the conference standings at 3-0-1. The Highlanders tied Troy two days earlier and also have a non-league draw against Utica Eisenhower, another one of the state’s top teams.

Merlin Beckwith finished with the hat trick for Adams. Mackenzie Barber, Kylie Nylen and Macy Houghlin also tallied for the Highlanders. Jessica Wineke picked up her third shutout.

Clarkston is still winless in conference play at 0-2-2, with a loss to Rochester and ties against North Farmington and Lake Orion.

AUBURN HILLS AVONDALE 3, NORTH FARMINGTON 1: Madison Duncan scored the first and third goal and Alyssa Chapman also scored in leading visiting Avondale (3-1-0, 2-0-1) to the OAA Red Division win Thursday. Andrea Strauss made six saves in the win. Akanksha Vaishnav scored for North Farmington (4-1-1, 2-1-1).

ROCHESTER HILLS CHRISTIAN 6, LIFE SUMMIT HOME SCHOOL 3: Allise Dubay scored four goals Thursday in leading the Eagles to the non-conference win. All of Dubay’s goals were unassisted, and she set up goals by Jane Crile and Sandra Mikhail. Megan Steiner got the win in goal for Rochester Hills Christian (4-0-0).

LAKE ORION 2, BERKLEY 1: Lake Orion found the win column Thursday in OAA Red Division play with this win over Berkley. Meghan Malloy scored the game winner in the second half and Katy Wagner also scored for the Dragons (1-2-1, 1-2-1). Lauren Oberheim made four saves. Katie Murphy scored for Berkley and Julie Shields made 11 stops for the Bears (4-2-1, 2-1-1).

AUBURN HILLS OAKLAND CHRISTIAN 1, BIRMINGHAM ROEPER 0: Samantha Woloson scored game’s lone goal in leading Oakland Christian to the MIAC Blue Division win. Maddie Bottiaux made four saves for Oakland Christian (2-1-0, 1-0-0).

TROY 2, ROCHESTER STONEY CREEK 0:
Emily Dzik had a goal in the first half and Irene Young added a goal in the second half to lead Troy to the OAA Red Division win.
Erin Farley added an assist and Alison Holland made 10 saves for Troy (2-0-1, 2-0-1).

WATERFORD OUR LADY OF LAKES 3, MACOMB LUTHERAN NORTH 0: Lakes scored a goal in the first half and added two second=half tallies in recording this CHSL win. Ava Doestch had a goal and two assists to lead WOLL. Brianna Topolewski and Abbey Troy added goals a Meghan Topolewski had single goals for Lakes. Chantelle Ludwig made seven saves for the shutout for Our Lady (4-0-0).


LAKE ORION 2, BERKLEY 1:
Lake Orion found the win column Thursday in OAA Red Division play with this win over Berkley. OXFORD 0, WEST BLOOMFIELD 0: Sarah Stroope made15 saves in helping Oxford gain this OAA White Division title. The Wildcats are 1-1-3 overall.
