FRIDAY’S PREP ROUNDUP: Athens shuts down Clarkston

CLARKSTON — Anthony Carrillo and Sam Koelzer shut down Clarkston’s potent offensive attack and the Red Hawks gained some timely hitting in the second inning to post a 2-0 victory Friday over the host Wolves in OAA Red Division baseball play.

In the second inning David Mandziara and Ira Land Followed both singles, Hayato Ando advanced the runners on a sac bunt and Jake Barger smacked a two-run double to account for the game’s only runs.

It was the first loss of the season for Clarkston (4-1, 1-1).

GIRLS LACROSSE

TROY ATHENS 8, ROCHESTER 5: Becca Chen scored five goals to lead host Athens to an 8-5 victory over Rochester in OAA play Friday. Athens (2-1-0) had single goals from Alicia Partynski, Shelby Halpin and Lindsay Kanaia. Maggie Ng led Rochester with two goals and an assist, while Jordin Pardoski, Natalie Prisciandaro and Emily Skubic scored once each for the Falcons (2-1-0).

FLINT POWERS CATHOLIC 9, LAKE ORION 5: Paige Hammerl scored two goals, while Nicole Blovet, Jessica Smude and Ronnie Booth tallied one goal each for Lake Orion Friday in this non-league loss. Smude also added an assist for the Dragons.
