2011 GIRLS LACROSSE TEAM CAPSULES

Below are the team capsules for girls lacrosse programs located in the coverage area for www.northoaklandsports.com. Teams wishing to have their information published here can e-mailto results@northoaklandsports.com or to Senior Editor Dan Stickradt at dan.stickradt@northoaklandsports.com

Clarkston

HEAD COACH: Stephanie Dellinger, first season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: Overall record not available, 2-2 OAA White Division (tied-second).

STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Division 1 regional opener to Hartland (17-6).

RETURNING STATERS: Stephanie Dellinger, jr. M (All-OAA White Division; Team MVP; all-area); Lauren Sharkey, soph. M (All-OAA White Division); Danielle Dunn, jr. M; Kylie Cohu, soph. G; Caroline Champion, sr. A.

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Quinn Dabrowski, sr. M.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Brittney Jaynes, soph. M; Sage Beauregard, fr. A; Paige Miller, jr. D; Rachel Manssur, jr. D; Whitney Kelley, jr. D; Ashley Piper, jr. M.

KEY LOSSES: Graduated 19 players.

NOTABLES: While the Wolves return two of the better players in the OAA-White in Dellinger and Sharkey, they must replace19 players and six regular starters from last year’s team; like a lot of the teams in Oakland County, Clarkston’s lacrosse program is less than a decade old, so the grass roots of forming youth leagues, camps and interest are still being planted; the overall talent has increased in the OAA in recent years, as there are now 11 programs in the league with the addition of Oxford, which started a club team last season. and Rochester Adams, which branched out from a unified team with Rochester Stoney Creek; Clarkston remains in the OAA-White.

EYE ON THE PRIZE: Rochester junior Jordan Pardoski and the Falcons were OAA White Division champions last spring and hope to have another solid finish in 2011. File Photo | Larry McKee, www.lmckeephotography.com

Lake Orion

HEAD COACH: Bill Booth, fourth season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 9-7-2, 2-2 OAA White Division (tied-second).

STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Division 1 regional semifinals to Waterford Unified (14-13, 2 OT).

RETURNING STARTERS: Ronnie Booth, sr. C (two-time All –OAA; all-area; 34 goals); Paige Hammerl, sr. A; third-year starter); Jessica Smude, sr. A/W; Ashley Dakki, sr. D; Corey Tremblay, sr. C/D; Jordan Hill, sr. D; Rachel Cohen, sr. D.

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Kaillen Tweedie, jr. M; Carly Brooks, sr. A; Nicole Blovet, sr. A; Sydney Bryce, sr. M; Mallory DeMott, jr. A/M (called up late last season).

KEY NEWCOMERS: Beth Giguere, soph. G; (will split time in goal); Tiffany Smrtnik, soph. G (will split time in goal); Rachel Cech, soph. A/M; Emily Hendrix, soph. A/M.

KEY LOSSES: Jodie Parker, F (all-league, all-area; Grand Valley State); Lindsay Butterfield, G (all-league, all-area, Western Michigan).

NOTABLES: The Dragons must replace two if the best players in program history in Parker and Butterfield, now playing in college; there are seven returning starters and six others who saw time off the bench last season; if they can gel and fill the gaps left by graduation, then Lake Orion could be a challenger for the OAA White Division crown this season.

Oxford

HEAD COACH: Heather Miller, second season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 0-6-0.

STATE TOURNAMENT: Did not participate in MHSAA postseason as a club team last season.

KEY PLAYERS: Bri Clippert, sr.; Kelsey Plummer, sr.; Taylor Wilson, sr.;
Jordan Piezinski, soph.; Emma Kimmel, soph.; Abby Wrobel, soph.; Emily McMillon, soph.; Ali Cedroni soph.; Ashley Miller, fr.

NOTABLES: Oxford began with a small club team with virtually no experience and finished 0-6 with a small non-league schedule; this year the school moved over to the OAA, where the Wildcats are one of two new programs, along with Rochester Adams; there are 23 players on the roster as the Wildcats will continue to build the foundation of a solid program down the road.; program will still compete as club and will not enter MHSAA tournament until next season.

Rochester

HEAD COACH: Dave Hamnel, fourth season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 12-3-1, 3-0-1 OAA White Division (first).

STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Division 2 regional semifinals to Bloomfield Hills Sacred Heart (16-5).

RETURNING STATERS: Maggie Ng, sr. A (34 goals; fourth-year varsity); Emily Skubic, sr. A (17 goals; fourth-year varsity); Jordan Pardoski, jr. M/D (11 goals as defender; lead team in ground balls); Aly Rosenau, jr. G (.550 save percentage); Emily Janik, sr.  M (fourth-year varsity); Samantha Blair, jr. M; Caitlyn Cricelli, sr. D; Sydney Jonas, sr. D.

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Katie Krako, jr. A; Rachel Lohmeier, jr. M; Natalie Prisciandaro, jr. M.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Kylie Gray, jr. M; Karoline Newer, jr. M; Rachel Bellestri, sr. A; Taylor Leslie, soph. A; Kirsten Laux, jr., D; Rachel Gendich, jr. D; Michaela Penberthy, jr. D; Gloria Lim, jr. D.

KEY LOSSES: Sarah Mattingly, M (47 goals); Jennifer Kuznia, A (24 goals); Krista Fox, D; Holly Vizzacero, M.

NOTABLES: Since forming as Rochester United nearly a decade ago, this program has continued to climb, even with all three high school in Rochester now fielding independent teams; the Falcons are ranked in Division 2 in the early stages of the season, and that’s after graduating 71 goals from two standout players; Rochester should be one of the better teams in the OAA this season.

Rochester Adams

HEAD COACH: Ashley Howald, first season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: First-year program.

STATE TOURNAMENT: Will compete in Division 2 this season.

KEY PLAYERS: Mackenzie Soma, jr. C; Gteta Meloff, jr. A; Marisa Inaderosa, jr. A; Emily Deane, fr. G; Abby Dickinson, soph. M.

NOTABLES: The Highlanders split off from the Rochester United program and are off to an 0-5-0 start, but have a pair of two-goal losses; there are only four players that played varsity for United last season, with most of the team being junior varsity players from last season or newcomers to the sport this season; the numbers are very strong with 58 players trying out for the Adams varsity and junior varsity squads, and the school decided not to make cuts the first year as a way to develop interest and to train players.

Rochester Stoney Creek

HEAD COACH: Haley Noonan, fourth season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 3-12-1, 0-5-0 OAA Red Division.

STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Division 1 regional opener to Lake Orion (14-13).

KEY RETURNEES:  Brianna Johnson, sr. C/M; Jaclyn Cox, sr. C M/A; Carly Pascaretta, jr. M; Michelle Egan, jr. D; Kelsie Pittel, sr. M; Kelsey McNeely, sr. D.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Kendra Oli fr. G.

KEY LOSSES: Maddie Reader, M.

NOTABLES: Last season Stoney Creek and Adams still competed as Rochester United, but now they have split up giving the district three separate teams; there are 25 players on varsity, so numbers are still very strong despite the split and the Cougars are already making a mark, going 3-0 in the first couple of weeks of the season and breaking into the top-10 in Division 2;lastseason  as United the team participated in Division 1 for the state tournament; this year all three Rochester programs will be in Division 2 and participate in the regional held at Troy Athens.

Troy

HEAD COACH: Allison Atchoo, first season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 11-6-0, 5-1 OAA Red Division (second).

STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Division 1 regional finals to Grosse Pointe South
(16-9).

RETURNING STATERS: Jessica Benton, sr. C (all-league, all-area); Susan Blake, sr. D; Kathy Maher-Edgin, sr. M (all-league, all-area); Kristin Soriede, sr. M (all-league, all-area; 35 goals; second-team all-state); Julia Cruz, sr. D; Emma Green, sr. D; Haley Burns, soph. M; Sydney Barnett, sr. A.

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Natalia Sachovska, sr. D; Theresa Burez, soph. A; Jackie Benton, soph. M; Rachel Sacco, soph. G; Christine Dolikian, jr. M; Kristine Barlow, jr. A.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Allison Bourquin, jr. D; Claire Johnston, soph. D; Lilia Sachovska, soph. D; Dianna Maloney, jr. A; Nikki Pollina, jr. A; Carly Pollina, soph. D; Sarah Forgrave, jr. A.

KEY LOSSES: Emily Raymond, A (62 goals, 25 assists; all-league, all-area, all-state).

NOTABLES: Troy had a fine season last spring but no championship to show for it, finishing second in the league and losing in the regional finals; this year’s team as a new head coach as Liz Waters departs and Allison Atchoo takes over the reigns; the Colts must replace Emily Raymond, who tallied an area-best 65 goals last season and is one of the all-time leading goal scorers in program and OAA history; beyond that, there is still ample talent, including eight starters and 14 total players,  that should keep Troy near the top of the standings.

Troy Athens

HEAD COACH: Rob Holder, 10th season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: Overall record not available; 1-4 OAA Red Division (fifth).

STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Division 1 regional opener to Grosse Pointe North (12-11).

RETURNING STATERS: Devon Gac sr. G; Jennifer Radowick, sr. M; Alicia Partynski, sr. M; Kathryn Wellein, sr. M (all-league; all-area); Becca Chen, soph. M.

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Monique Thakur, jr. D; Alyssa Stark-Norton, jr. M; Tara , jr. D; Lauren Bilinski, jr. D.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Andrea Bianchini, jr. M; Lindsey Kinaia, jr. A; Laura Demarco, jr. A; Madison Ross, jr. D; Abbie Winkel, jr. D; Elizabeth Stuart, jr. M; Melissa Deacon, jr. M; Jenna Peterson, fr. A; Jill Dougherty, fr. A; Jenna Grulke, soph. A; Shelby Halpin, soph. A; Angelica Fernandez, soph. A; Jenny Park, jr. A; Dalia Khader, soph. D.

KEY LOSSES: Angeline Meitzler, M (41 goals, 15 assists); Paige Montana, A.

NOTABLES: The Red Hawks had an up-and-down year last season and now must replace two of the top three goal scorers from last year’s team in Montana and Meitzler; if Holder can develop another offensive threat from the 14 newcomers to join Chen, who had a fine freshman campaign, then this team should be able to compete with a lot of others around the area; Athens already owns a 8-5win over OAA-White champ Rochester; Red Hawks will host a Division 2 regional this season.
