Below are the boys lacrosse team capsules for the 2011 season for schools located in the www.northoaklandsports.com coverage area. Coaches can submit information to results@northoaklandsports.com or to Senior Editor Dan Stickradt at dan.stickradt@northoaklandsports.com

Clarkston

COACH: Brian Kaminskas, eighth season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 8-9-0, 3-3 OAA Red Division (fourth).

STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Division 1 regional second round to Novi (10-5).

RETURNING STARTERS: Kevin O’Grady, jr. A; Jordan Kincaid, jr. A; Matt Burtnett, sr. D (committed to Rollins College, D-II for lacrosse); Nick Dematiia, jr. LSM; Alexander Dziewit, sr. M; Kevin Horton, jr. M.

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Joe Sharkey, jr. M (face-off specialist); Travis Craft, jr. A; Matt Goebel, sr. G.

KEYNEWCOMERS: Alex Fitzgerald, sr. M.

KEY LOSSES: Chapin White, M (honorable-mention all-state); Hunter Layson, A (honorable-mention all-state); Jeff Turner, G (all-league).

NOTABLES: Clarkston played through a season of multiple injuries to key players in 2010, so the team was never able to reach its full potential; this season

Lake Orion

COACH: Brad Thomas, first season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 7-7-0, 3-4 OAA White Division (fourth).

STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Division 1 regional semifinals to Walled Lake Northern (10-6).

RETURNING STARTERS: Nick Kinsler, sr. G (all-league, all-area); Brad Bogus, jr. A; Tyler Misiak, sr. D; Nick DiPonio, sr. A; Colin Simmons, sr.  D.

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Jimmy Davis, jr. M; Jake Berkal, jr. M; Nick Luby, sr. D; Tyler Pratt, sr. G; Sam Kanda, sr. M; Robert Aiello, jr. LSM; Sean Raymor, jr. M; Andrew Vanek, jr. M.

KEYNEWCOMERS: Grant Glende, jr. M; Connor Miller, jr. D; Zach Miller, soph. A.

KEY LOSSES: Tyler Plets, A. Alec Naseef, soph. M (transferred); Matt Gattinger, D (all-league, all-area); Ben Kanda, M; Matt Khuel, D; Jon Hill, D.

NOTABLES: Former coach Nik Banda took a new job, restricting his coaching time, so the reigns were passed over to Thomas; this is a transitional year for the Dragons in their fifth season as a varsity program; can Lake Orion take it to the next level and contend for a league championship, or will it be another year with a middle of the pack finish; the Dragons do have one of the best backstops in the area with Kinsler in goal and with several football players form the Division 1 state championship team and several hockey players from the D-1 Final Four squad, there are athletes on this roster who are accustomed to winning.

Oxford

COACH: No information submitted.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 0-19-0, 0-3 Flint Metro League.

STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Division 2 pre-regional to Flint Powers Catholic (10-0).

RETURNING STARTERS: No information submitted.

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: No information submitted.

KEYNEWCOMERS: No information submitted.

KEY LOSSES: Adam Cook, sr. M; Derick Stinson, sr. G.

NOTABLES: This is Oxford’s second season as a varsity program and the only way to go is up with minimal losses to graduation and the fact that the Wildcats took their lumps without a win last season.

Rochester United

COACH: Michael Dungan, second round.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 13-4, 5-0 OAA White Division.

STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost to Macomb L’Anse Creuse North in Division 1 regional second round (7-5).

RETURNING STARTERS: Nathan Duff, sr. G (second team all state goalie); Jacob Pincura, sr. M (two-year captain); Stephen Acciaioli, jr. A; Bobby Blake, sr. M; Jacob Clough, sr. D; Alex Labrecque, sr. M; Caleb Symdra, jr. D.

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Matt Connors, jr. FO (honorable-mention all-state); Brian Gill, jr. M; Stefan Rowland, sr. D; Jay Samuels, sr. A; Taylor Zuke, jr. M.

KEYNEWCOMERS: Michael Angeli, soph. M; Areeya Forouzandeh, soph. FO; Austin Aielio, sr. D/M;

KEY LOSSES: Danny Warner, A (honorable mention all-state); Shawn Cox, D (all-league).

NOTABLES: Lacrosse is still less than a decade old in Rochester, but United took a step in the right direction last year by winning a league title and now have made the lap to the OAA Red Division, to play some more established programs; this team will likely not win a conference title, but will be better off come postseason time playing a more rugged schedule.

Rochester Adams

COACH: Andy Monmont, fourth season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 14-6-0, 2-5 OAA Red Division (fifth).

STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Division 2 regional semifinals to Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood (9-6).

RETURNING STARTERS: Alec Trumble, sr. M; Brad Nylen, sr. D; Lea Teasley, sr. A.

OTHER PLAYERS: Tim Hurst, jr. G; Mike Potoniec, sr. M;  Matt Morris, jr. M; Anthony Fracca, jr. A; Cameron Clark, jr. A; Steve Ward, sr. D; Jack Roy, jr. M; Jared Simard, jr. D; Brendon Mamon, fr. M; Gannon Pacioni, sr. M; Mike DiMarco, sr. M; Matt Rogers, jr. M; Matt Bowery, jr. M; Alex Shimanek, jr. M; Anders Reed, sr. A; Jeff Andrews, jr. A; Tyler Needs, jr. D; Colin Riordan, sr. A; Christian Wolanin, jr. M; Parker Monahan, fr. A; Tyler May, sr. D; Connor Grieb, jr. G; Jack Sicheneder, jr. D.

KEY LOSSES: Kevin Soisson, A; Devin Needs, D (honorable-mention all-state; Brigham Young); Tyler Kilpatrick, A (second-team all-state; 49 goals); Tyler Dunson, M; Chad Gierak, A; Marc Benacquisto, D; Dominic Corona, G.

NOTABLES: Adams, which won the OAA White Division title two years ago, made the leap to the OAA-Red last year and held its own with multiple close games; this year the Highlanders must replace three all-state players and a boatload of offensive production; can Adams weather the storm or struggle through a rebuilding campaign?

Troy

COACH: Towbey Kassa, second season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 6-13, 1-5 OAA Red Division.

STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Division 1 regional second round to Troy Athens (16-2).

RETURNING STARTERS: Nolan Dardzinski, sr. M; Haydn Hirn, sr. A; Nicholas Kondoleon, jr. A; Miles MacDonald, jr. M; Benjamin Olson, sr. M; Niko Vukov, sr. M; Jacob Winnega, sr. M.

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Sean Boucher, sr. D; Connor Hayden, soph. D; Oliver Jiang, jr. M; Michael Koumoutsopoulos, jr. G.

KEYNEWCOMERS: Dan Birkett, soph. G; Sean Bronsteen, jr. D; Christian Capece, jr. M; Colin Mclean, soph. A; Jay Satkovich, jr. D.

KEY LOSSES: Graduated 13 players; Jimmy Short, M (all-league, all-area);Yurey Bogtarey, D.

NOTABLES: A 16-2 loss in the second round of the postseason left a bad taste in the mouths of the Colts, who have high hopes of righting the ship this season after a rebuilding year in 2010; Troy counts seven returning starters and several other returnees on a roster of 30 that will hope help this team climb above five-hundred this season.

Troy Athens

COACH: Nick Stetsen, fourth season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 16-5, 5-1 OAA Red Division (second place).

STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Division 1 regional finals to Birmingham United (10-8).

RETURNING STARTERS: Joe Kemp, sr. M (first-team all-state; committed to NCAA DI Sacred Heart);

Kevin Lining, jr. M (verbal to NCAA DII Queens of Charlotte); Dakota Badder, jr. A;

Dan Kreza, sr. A (third-team all-state); Nick Youngerman, sr. D; Matt Fitzpatrick, jr. D; Neil Mistry, sr. D; Justin Yochem, sr. G.

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Matt Fitzpatrick, jr. D; Chad Halpin, sr. M;

KEYNEWCOMERS: Jake Spinek, jr. M; Nick Davis, jr. M; Cory Thai, jr. D.

KEY LOSSES: Matt Lining, M (Detroit-Mercy); Sean Trush, A (second-team all-state); Josh Oswald, M;

Brian Brinker, M (second-team all-state; all-area); Cameron Bazin, M; Eric Bambach, LSM; Kyle Pennington, LSM/A; Josh Munro, D; Billy Spinek, D.

NOTABLES: Ranked in the top 10 all of last season, the Red Hawks could not get past its nemesis, Birmingham United, finishing second to them in the league and losing in the regional finals to Birmingham by two goals; this year there is plenty of talent on the roster and the Red Hawks will engage once again with Birmingham and Clarkston for top honors in the league.
