MONDAY’S GIRLS SOCCER ROUNDUP: Oxford topples rival Brandon; Troy upends No. 1 Marian

OXFORD — Oxford won for just the second time this season Monday, topping neighboring rival Ortonville Brandon 3-0 in a non-conference girls soccer game.

Beth Downs scored the second and third goals for the Wildcats. Amanda Roth also had a goal and an assist, and Breanna Johnson picked up two assists for Oxford.

Sarah Stroope made five saves for her shutout of the season.

TROY 2, BIRMINGHAM MARIAN 0: Troy and Marian will not face each other in the postseason, as Troy competes in Division 1 and Marian D-2.But the two state powers got a taste of  what could be a pair of state champions, as Division 1 No.2-ranked Troy upended Division 2 top-ranked Marian 2-0 in this non-conference game.

Unbeaten Troy (6-0-1) scored both of its goals in the second half, those coming from Jamie Hawkey and Erin Farley. Alison Holland notched the shutout between the pipes for the Colts (6-0-1).

Makenzie Larson suffered the loss in goal for Marian (6-1-0).

TROY ATHENS 7, WEST BLOOMFIELD 1: The Red Hawks captured their seventh straight win Monday with this lopsided OAA crossover win over the Lakers. AfterWest Bloomfield’sJuliaKempf scored the first goal, Athens tallied seven unanswered goals to put the game away. Maggie Leone tied the game at the half, while Natalie Sabourin scored the game winner for the Red Hawks (7-1-0). Olivia Brannon scored three goals, while Marisa Kozikowski and Leah Schmitz also scored for Athens. Jenna O’Dell and Danielle Cooper shared the win in goal. It was the first loss of the season for West Bloomfield (3-1-1).
