The 15U Michigan BBC Select team finished second at the AAU Division 1 Regional Qualifying Tournament. The team moved up to the D-1 level, after winning the 14U-Division-2 regional a year ago.
During pool play, the Select team defeated the Southfield Transition (92-80) and lost to the D-1 defending champs Detroit Super Friends (61-57). In bracket play later in the day, BBC Select posted a lopsided win (84-50) over Team Michigan, followed by a win over D-I Basketball (61-57) in the tournament semifinals to advance to the championship game.
Facing the Detroit Super Friends once again in the finals, the task seemed too much to overcome as BBC Select dropped a 72-38 decision. Select had cut the lead down to nine points early in the second half but could not lock down on Super Friends.
With the runner-up finish, the Michigan BBC Select earned an automatic bid to the Division 1 Championship tournament in Little Rock, Ark., this summer.
Members of the team include Wesley Karle, Justin Hudson, Dan Hall, Nolan Linville, Travon DeSaussure, Stephen Benard Jr., Josh Cox, Eric Ewing, Steven Elliott and Zach Ferguson.
Linville and Ewing both made the all-tournament team.
