Schaenzer, Dragons drop Avondale to remain in title chase

LAKE ORION — Still in the hunt.

Lake Orion kept pace atop of the OAA Red Division baseball standings with an 8-1 victory over Auburn Hills Avondale Tuesday.

The Dragons (22-5, 9-3) scored three in the second, four in the third and pone more in the sixth to pull away. Avondale plated just one run in the second frame.

Lake Orion, which collected 12 hits on the day paced by Zach Zott, who was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI. Adam Yee was also 2-for-3, scored twice and had an RBI for the Dragons.

Cole Schaenzer pitched five innings, scattering five hits, one earned run and six walks against three strikeouts. Jake Gardner pitched two perfect games to close out the game.

Lake Orion has single games the next four days against Rochester, Troy Athens (Thursday and Friday) and Clarkston Saturday.

Brian Portelli suffered the loss, going 2 2/3 innings, giving up 10 hits while fanning two.
