TROY — Bloomfield Hills Sacred Heart is traditionally one of the best girls lacrosse programs in the state, with a program deep in tradition. The Gazelles reiterated that fact to Troy Athens Wednesday night.

Sacred Heart rolled over host Athens 12-6 in a Division 2 regional opener to advance to the second round.

“They are a very good team, always a good team,” said Athens coach Rob Holder, whose team finished the season 7-10-0. “We are still a young team and they have a lot of veterans.

The Gazelles (16-1-0) was paced by multiple goal scorers, including Lindsey Crowl, who notched the hat trick. Katilin Brown and Kati Mezwa both had two goals apiece and Bella Yzerman had a goal and three assists for Sacred Heart, which will play Rochester on June 1, at 6 p.m., also at Athens.

Kathryn Wellein finished with two goals for the Red Hawks. Jena Peterson, Jennifer Radowick, Monique Thakur and Lindsey Kinaia also scored for Athens.

“This is a very tough region,” admitted Holder.”When you have teams like Sacred Heart (Bloomfield Hills) Cranbrook, and (Pontiac) Notre Dame Prep in your region, it’s going to be tough.”

ROCHESTER 17, WARREN REGINA 12: Rochester earned a date with Bloomfield Hills Sacred Heart of the second straight season, topping the Satellites in this Division 2 pre-regional game Wednesday at Troy Athens.
