ROCHESTER HILLS — Eric Mischley had one of the better individual seasons in school history for baseball at Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest, yet he had very little interest from college coaches.

The hometown best kept secret will stay home and play for coach Jordan Ackerman at Rochester College.

Mischley, an outfielder and left-handed pitcher at Northwest, earned Division 4 All-State First Team honors this past spring and will be key addition for the Warriors this school year.

Ackerman felt he got a steal with the late signing of Mischley.

“Eric is a great addition for us. His stats and honors do not lie,” said Ackerman. “He is a speedy outfielder, but can also pitch with the best of them. We have been watching Eric since his sophomore year and he is a kid we knew we had to get. We were very excited when Eric called and committed to us. He comes from a top notch high school program and was top in his class academically. I am excited to see Eric battle for a spot this fall.”

A four-year varsity veteran on the baseball diamond, the former www.northoaklandsports.com Athlete of the Week earned All-MIAC Blue Division, All-District and All-Region as a senior, leading his team to the D-4 state quarterfinals. He played three sports at Northwest, also earning three varsity letters in football and one in basketball.

He helped his football team win three straight conference titles (2008-10), the first time that has happened in school history, and to the Division 7 playoffs each of those years.

Mischley’s senior baseball season included an impressive .513 batting average with 41 runs, 40 RBI, 10 doubles, five triples, four home runs and 25 stolen bases from the plate. On the pitcher’s mound, he captured a district and regional title and was 4-4 with a 3.46 ERA, 67 strikeouts and only 17 walks in 45 innings of work.

Mischley’s best performance as a prep pitcher was his last, as he set a single-game school record with 16 strikeouts with just three hits in a 2-1 loss to eventual D-4 state runner-up Merrill in the state quarterfinals.

“Eric was our best player and one of the best players we have seen in a few years,” said Northwest coach Mario Borrocci. “He’s a great kid and great student. He won one district game, one regional game and lost the quarterfinals game 2-1 with both runs being unearned.”
