Schiller, Hall honored as MITCA 2011 Miss Track, Mr. Track

After some dominating performances this past high school track and field season, Grand Ledge’s Tory Schiller and East Kentwood’s Ricco Hall were given the state’s top honor this week by being awarded as the 2011 Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association recipients of Miss Track and Mr. Track.
The duo, both state champions, head up the 2011 All-State Dream Team, which features the state’s very best combining all four divisions this season.
Schiller won the long jump and 300 hurdles at the Division 1 state meet to lead a talented cast of athletes on the Girls All-State Dream Team, which features 26 athletes.
Dexter’s Nyki Caldwell (high jump), Middleville Thornapple-Kellogg’s Brittany London (pole vault), Michigan Center’s Tonia Pratt (discus) and Pontiac’s Angela Bursey (shot put) head up the field events crew.
Detroit Cass Tech’s Kyra Jefferson (100, 200 meters) and Southfield ‘s Latipha Cross, (400 meters) picked apart the sprints, while Grosse Pointe South’s Hannah Meier (1,600, 800) and Grand Blanc’s Gabrielle Anzalone (3,200 meters) the distances races.
Reed City’s Sami Mitchell (100 hurdles) joined the aforementioned Schiller (300 hurdles) as the state’s top hurdles crew.
In the relays Novi’s D’Mya Davis, Janee Hood, Mariah Smith and Jasmine Ward (400 relay); East Kentwood’s Fiana Corner, Lameeka Davis, Rebecca Hall, Brittany Terry (800 relay); Detroit Cass Tech’s Ravyn Baxter, Alxis Hull, Jankia Kingand Jefferson (1,600 relay) and Ann Arbor Huron’s Kennedy Beazley, Annie Norah Beveridge, Maya Long, Chinyere Onimo (3,200 relay) were the pack leaders in 2011.
Hall was an easy choice as the senior won two open events and ran on two winning relays for East Kentwood, which repeated as the D-1 boys state champion. He heads up the 25-member boys Dream Team.
Hall won the 100 and 400 and is joined on the Dream Team by Jackson’s Deonte Hopson (200) in the sprints contingent.
Temperance Bedford’s Nick Keiser (800), Grand Blanc’s Omar Kaddurah (1,600 meters) and Saginaw Heritage’s Evan Chiplock (3,200 meters) lead the distance group, while Ann Arbor Pioneer’s Drake Johnson (110 hurdles) and Portage Northern’s Javonte Lipsey (300 hurdles) were the state’s best in their events.
Field events-wise, Okemos’ Owen Hughes (high jump), Big Rapids’ Aaron Daugherty long jump), Kent City’s Isaac Austfin (pole vault), Byron Center’s Derek Seivers (discus) and Anthony Zettel of West Branch Ogemaw Heights (shot put) were tops of the class.
In the relays, Rockford’s Chris Eggenberger, Brian Fischer, Brandon Lubenow and Colin Rembema (400 relay); East Kentwood’s Houston Glass, Hall, Chris James and Jalen Stovall (800 relay) and Hall, James, Ernie Morton and Joe Riggins (1,600 relay); and Pinckney’s Eric Fegan, Cal Magier, Jake Magier and Zac Meston (3,200 relay) all had the state-finals best finishes.
