BIRMIGNHAM — Three times in the past decade, Birmingham Roeper has knocked off Auburn Hills Oakland Christian when it was the No. 1-ranked team boys soccer team in the state in the small-school division.
On Tuesday, Oakland Christian gained a measure of revenge on the Roughriders.
Oakland Christian, ranked seventh in Division 4, knocked off previously unbeaten and D-4 top-ranked Roeper, 2-0, at St. James Park in Birmingham in a key MIAC Blue Division match.
Chris Polite scored both goals for the Lancers (7-1-1 4-0-0).
Polite finished off a cross from Dan Smith in the 30th minute for what proved to be the game-winner. Polite later added an insurance tally in the 65th minute, this time scoring on a rebound off his own shot following a cornerkick.
Luke Combs made nine saves to gain his third shutout of the season for Oakland Christian.
Roeper, which came into the contest 8-0-0, slipped to 8-1-0 and 3-1-0 in league play. The Roughriders had just took over the top spot in D-4 in Tuesday’s coaches association poll after being ranked second the previous week.
