TUESDAY’S VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Troy avenges Avondale; Oakland Christian slams Lutheran Northwest
TROY — Last November, Auburn Hills Avondale opened up the Class A girls volleyball tournament with a victory over Troy. Nearly 10 months later, the Colts gained their long-awaited revenge on the Yellowjakcets.
Troy posted a 25-11, 25-20 and 25-18 sweep of visiting Avondale on Tuesday in the OAA White Division opener for both teams.
Junior outside hitter Hope Keating was on fire with eight kills and eight services aces to pace the Colts. Junior Nicole Hahn and senior Taylor Marquardt followed with seven kills apiece, for Troy, which amassed 35 kills and 22 serving aces as a team.
AUBURN HILLS OAKLAND CHRISTIAN 25-22-25-25, ROCHESTER HILLS LUTHERAN NORTHWEST 22-25-8-22: Host Oakland Christian opened up MIAC Blue Division play with this four-game victory Tuesday over the Crusaders. Darcy Johnston had 24 kills, five blocks and 23 digs to pace the Lancers (7-2-3, 1-0). Erin Washington added 33 assists and three aces for Oakland Christian.
TROY ATHENS 25-25-16-25, ROCHESTER STONEY CREEK 18-21-25-23: Erica Siismets had five kills and six blocks to lead host Athens to this OAA White Division victory Tuesday. Emma Kollman added 36 digs and14 service points, while Rachel Senopole contributed six kills for Athens (8-6-0, 1-0). Morgan Darin had 18 digs and Lisa Kisil slammed seven kills and seven digs for Stoney Creek (6-4-2, 0-2).
WATERFORD OUR LADY OF THE LAKES 25-25-28, BLOOMFIELD HILLS CRANBROOK KINGSWOOD 18-20-26: The Lakers opened up CHSL-Tri-Sectional play Tuesday with this home win over Cranbrook. Haley Howell had four aces and eight kills to lead WOLL (18-10-0). Christina Krupiak had seven digs and two service aces, while Devin Valent and Allison Sanulon had five kills apiece for the winners.
