Helberg’s game-winner lifts Rochester College over Definace

DEFIANCE, Ohio — Rochester College continued to pull away from the five-hundred mark and rallied for a 2-1 victory over Defiance College Wednesday night in a non-league men’s soccer match.

Chad Helberg provided the game winner with 8:01 to play, beating the goalie to the post inside the penalty box to help the Warriors, ranked third in the nation in the USCAA polls, to improve their record to 6-4-1 on the season.

After a scoreless first half, Rochester finally broke through in the 54th minute. Junior Sergio Lopez (Bogota’, Colombia/Delta CC) drew a penalty kick and junior Robert Ekrem (Naddeoud, Norway) converted the shot to put the Warriors ahead, 1-0.

Defiance (1-6-1) netted the equalizer t the 64:27 mark on an unassisted goal by Mark Jacobson.

RC outshot the Yellowjackets 22-16 for the game.

The Warriors play at home on Saturday against Notre Dame College at the Ultimate Soccer Arenas in Pontiac. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
