SCHOOL: Rochester

HEAD COACH: Paul Karas, third season.

2010 RECORD: 4-4, 4-3 OAA White Division.

LEAGUE FINISH: Fourth at OAA-White league meet (290 points.

COUNTY FINISH: 16^th (38 points).

STATE FINISH: 31^st at D-1 state finals (12 points).

KEY RETURNEES: Hanna Shin, sr.; Haley Ludwig, jr. (state qualifier in 100 butterfly and 200 IM); Jenna Cendrowski, sr.; Lauren Reedy, sr,. (diver; earned All-State honors last season).

NOTABLES: The Falcons are dealing with the same problem as some of their OAA comrades, as many of the top tier swimmers are currently swimming at the club level only. Rochester does have increased numbers overall this season with 32 team members and great class balance on the squad with nine freshmen, seven sophomores, eight juniors and eight seniors. There are also five sets of sisters on the squad.

SCHOOL: Clarkston

HEAD COACH: Kenwyn Chock, 12^th season.

2010 RECORD: 8-1, 6-0 OAA Blue Division.

LEAGUE FINISH: Won OAA-Blue league meet (601 points); won overall league crown.

COUNTY FINISH: Eighth place (114 points).

STATE FINISH: finished 16^th at D-1 state finals (53 points).

KEY RETURNEES: Sami Stelpflug, soph. (state runner-up in 200 IM and 100 breaststroke); Kathryn Culver, soph. (state qualifier); Natalie Vela, soph. (state qualifier); Monica Gorgas, soph. (state qualifier); Jessica Balker, sr. (diving); Lean Tanton, sr. (diving); Alissa Spiteman, sr. (diving).

KEY NEWCOMERS: Megan Stelpflug, fr. (distance, freestyles); Sydney Phon, fr. (breaststroke and freestyle); Kylie Fere, fr. (breaststroke).

KEY LOSSES: None.

NOTABLES: Clarkston makes the quantum leap from the OAA blue Division to the OAA Red Division, a rare two-division leap in any sport since the league’s debut in 1994-95.With very deep freshmen and sophomore classes with a ton of high-level swimmers and three quality divers, expect Clarkston to finish well inside the top-10 at the county meet, be a top-half finisher in the OAA-Red and even crack the top 10 at the D-1 state meet.

SCHOOL: Lake Orion

HEAD COACH: Darin Abbasse, 13^th season.

2010 RECORD: 1-9-0, 0-6-0 OAA Red Division.

LEAGUE FINISH: Seventh at OAA-Red league meet (165 points); seventh in final standings.

COUNTY FINISH: Finished 11^th at county meet (65).

OTHER RETURNEES: Colby Pudlo, sr. (state qualifier in the

100 butterfly as a sophomore and state relay swimmer); Kristen

KEY NEWSOMERS: Danielle Kudla, fr. (50 free,100 free, 200 free, 100

butterfly); Bethany Abramczyc, fr. (200 IM, 100 backstroke, sprint freestyle).

KEY LOSSES: Veronica Booth (state qualifier in relays; now playing for Oakland University’s lacrosse team).

NOTABLES: Lake Orion struggled in dual meets last season competing in the state’s toughest league, but still had a tough core that scored well at larger meets last season. The Dragons, who are in their 13^th season as a swim program, might have the same difficulty. They are good enough to be in the OAA’s top division, as they routinely score well at the county and state meets, but don’t have enough depth to challenge powerhouse teams such as Birmingham Seaholm and Birmingham Groves.

SCHOOL: Troy

HEAD COACH: Tom Wyllie, first season.

2010 RECORD: 1-7, 1-5 OAA Red Division.

LEAGUE FINISH: Sixth at OAA-Red league meet (168 points).

COUNTY FINISH: 20th place (17 points).

(captain, 50 free, 100 backstroke, returning state qualifier in 50 free, 200 medley relay, 400 free relay); Jacqueline Burke, jr. (captain, sprint freestyle, 50 free, 100 free, returning state qualifier in 50 free, 200 free relay, 400 free relay).

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Belicia Tan, soph. (200 free, 200 IM, 500 free); Grace LaBelle, soph. (50 free, 100 free); Carley Buechner, soph. (100 breaststroke).

KEY NEWCOMERS: Sunny Chiang, fr. (versatile in all strokes; excels in distance events and 200 and 500 free); China Burke, fr. (200 IM, 100 breaststroke, sprint freestyle, 50 free, 100 free).

NOTABLES: Tom Wyllie, the longtime boys coach at Birmingham Seaholm, takes over the Troy girls program, which has seen a turnstyle of coaches in the past decade. The Colts do return a bulk of their scorers and have a nice freshman class that should help this team score more points at various meets.

SCHOOL: Holly

HEAD COACH: Danielle Gray.

2010 RECORD: 5-2, 4-2 Flint Metro League.

LEAGUE FINISH: Second in overall FML standings.

COUNTY FINISH: Did not compete; Holly competed at the Genesee Area meet on the same weekend.

STATE FINISH: Did not score.

KEY RETURNEES:) Courtney Konopitski, jr. (100 backstroke, 200 IM); Jessie Felix, jr. (100 breaststroke, distance freestyler); Breanne Thomas, jr. (sprint freestyler); Hannah Micallef, jr. (diver).

NOTABLES: Holly’s program is less than a decade old, but had done reasonably well with the Flint Metro League, finishing second last season. This team graduated its two state qualifiers from last season but returns several key competitors that should help the Bronchos finish in the top half of the league once again.

NOTE: Preseason surveys were unreturned by Auburn Hills Avondale, Ortonville Brandon, Oxford, Pontiac Notre Dame Prep, Rochester Adams, Rochester Stoney Creek and Troy Athens.
