OU’s Holbrook shares Summit League honor

ELMHURST, Ill. – Oakland’s Brittany Holbrook and Oral Roberts’ Bruna Silva were named The Summit League’s Offensive and Defensive Volleyball Players of the Week for their performances Oct. 3-9.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Holbrook earns her first career Offensive Player of the Week honor after leading the Golden Grizzlies to an undefeated (2-0) week in league play.  In a 3-0 sweep of UMKC, the junior middle hitter was perfect at the net (8-0-12) with a .667 clip. She then posted a .417 hitting percentage (8-1-17) in Oakland’s 3-1 win over South Dakota.  On the week, Holbrook tallied 16 kills and only one error in 29 attempts for a .517 hitting percentage.

Silva garners her second career Defensive Player of the Week award and second of the season after helping the Golden Eagles go undefeated (2-0) in league play last week and take sole possession of first place.  The libero posted two matches of 35-plus digs, including back-to-back career-best performances.  To start the week, she tallied a career-high 38 digs in ORU’s five-set victory over South Dakota State and then came back the next day to better that performance with 41 digs in a five-set win against North Dakota State.  Her dig total against the Bison tied the fifth-best league performance for digs in all matches. For the week, Silva recorded 79 digs, averaging 7.9 per set, and two service aces.
