SUNDAY’S FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Shrine cruises past Our Lady of the Lakes
ROYAL OAK — Top-ranked Royal Oak Shrine Catholic is still perfect.
The Knights, which hold the No. 1 spot in the Associated Press’ Division 7 polls, rolled over rival Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes, 25-7, in a CHSL crossover contest Sunday afternoon.
The win snapped a two-year losing streak to WOLL.
Raymond Brown chalked up 151 yards rushing and three touchdowns to lead Shrine (7-0). Connor Francek finished 7-for-11 passing for 112 yards and one touchdown for the Knights, who at one point led 25-0 in the fourth quarter.
The Knights built a 12-0 lead after the first quarter and had a 18-0 advantage at the half. After a scoreless third quarter, Shrine scored first before the Lakers (4-3) spoiled the shutout with a late scoring drive.
60-yard dart down the right sidelines into the end zone, provided Shrine a 25-0 lead with 8:42 remaining.
Francek hooked up with Jack Wangler for a 28-yard scoring toss to open the scoring and Brown followed with an 8-yard run to put the Knights up 12-0. Brown later added a 3-yard plunge in the second frame.
Brown also scored on a 60-yard sprint early in the fourth quarter, which put the game out of reach.
Freshman Sal Mastromatteo founded Garrett Ross from 4-yards with under five minutes to play for Waterford Our Lady to cap the scoring.
