AUBURN HILLS — The seniors on Auburn Hills Oakland Christian’s boys soccer team do not know what it’s like to lose a district game.
The Lancers captured their sixth straight Division 4 district title Saturday, topping visiting Sterling Heights Parkway Christian, 6-0, giving Oakland Christian its 11th district crown in 18 years. This year’s seniors have been a part of four of the school’s district streak, which is now at 18 straight wins overall.
The last time Oakland Christian lost in the district round, the year was 2005. The current seniors were in the sixth grade.
“This was a nice win for us because we got to play all (26) players,” said Oakland Christian coach Luke Combs. “We came out and scored three quick goals and we never allowed them a chance to get many shots off. I was able to play a lot of guys.
“I really lectured the guys after our first (district) win on Tuesday that we need to play with a lot of intensity, not take any team lightly,” added Combs. “I think they got the message. We have played back-to-back games.”
Sophomore Daniel Smith recorded the natural hat trick, scoring the first three goals in the opening 15 minutes to set the tone. Pablo Calzada, Spencer Hodges and Luke Combs also scored for the Lancers (17-4-1).
Chris Polite added two assists, while Chasen Massey, Clifford Baxter, Hodges and Drew Perrin also had assists for Oakland Christian, which will host a regional next week and face first-time district winner Marlette at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Oakland Christian outshot Parkway Christian by a 19-2 margin. Luke Combs and David Lewis combined for the team’s eighth shutout on the season.
