Oakland routs Windsor in final exhibition, 98-67
ROCHESTER HILLS – This past August, the University of Windsor was able to defeat three-time NCAA qualifier Oakland University in a men’s basketball scrimmage. In Tuesday’s final exhibition, the Golden Grizzlies exacted some revenge.
Reggie Hamilton scored a game-high 24 points and Laval Lucas-Perry tallied 21 points as the Oakland men’s basketball team upended Windsor, 98-67, in an exhibition game at Rochester Adams High School.
The Golden Grizzlies caused 16 turnovers and tallied 10 steals in the contest.
“I was very pleased with the game tonight, two months ago this team beat us,” said Oakland coach Greg Kampe. “We scored 98 points and only shot 35 percent from the three, which will not happen often. I was pleased with our defense, holding them to 68 points after they scored 99 and 86 points in the two previous games we played them.”
Ryan Bass was a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor for the Grizzlies, finishing with 13 points off the bench and Drew Valentine posted 12 points and seven rebounds. Windsor had two players in double figures as Lien Phillip tallied a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds and Enrico Di Loreto added 13 points for the Lancers.
The Golden Grizzlies used an early 8-0 run in the first half to open up a double-digit lead, 19-9, with 13:09 left until halftime. OU extended that lead to 15 points with just over six minutes left and took a 12-point advantage at intermission, 48-36.
Oakland pushed the lead to 26 points seven minutes in to the second half and never looked back, leading by as much as 32 with just under two minutes left in the game. The Golden Grizzlies shot 50 percent (20-40) in the second half while holding the Lancers to 39 percent (21-54).
OU will begin the regular season at No. 19/17 Alabama on Monday at 8 p.m. ET. The game can be followed on GameTracker at OUgrizzlies.com.
