ROCHESTER HILLS — Lauren Reedy had to make a decision a year ago.

Walking off the grandstand of the Division 1 state swimming and diving finals, the Rochester High student hds a seventh-place medal in her hand from the diving event.

She vowed right there and then that she would finish higher this season — much higher.

Her goal is to be one of the state’s best and put herself in position to win the Division 1 state championship this season.

Reedy gave up softball for her junior season and during the summer, opting to spend some extra time training with her Oakland University-based Legacy club program

“I had to give up softball. It was hard, but I realized that diving is where my future is and I had to put more time into it in order to win (a state title),” smiled Reedy.

Reedy was 36th at state as a sophomore and seventh last season, signaling a quantum leap. Reedy was the Oakland County, OAA White Division and Division 1 regional champion this season. She enters this weekend as one of the top seeds after an undefeated season.

Reedy signed with Missouri last Friday to end her recruiting process. Now she is concentrating on the biggest weekend of her life. The Division 1 state finals are Friday-Saturday at Eastern Michigan University.

“I am glad to get that out of my way,” said Reedy of signing her letter-of-intent. “Now I can just worry about this weekend.

“It’s been my dream ever since last year to come back this year and try to win it,” she smiled. “That’s the ultimate goal.”
