THURSDAY’S BOYS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Northwest withstands Shrine’s comeback effort

ROYAL OAK — Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest rolled up a 48-32 advantage through three quarters of play Thursday and withstood a furious comeback by Royal Oak Shrine Catholic to record a 64-58 non-league boys basketball victory.

Northwest (1-1) slowly built a 19-12 lead after the first quarter and 31-24 advantage at the break. The Crusaders used a 17-8 surge in the third frame only to see the Knights go on a 26-16 run in the final period.

Gurther Rathor scored a game-high 25 points to lead Northwest. Nathan Drews added 20 points and Colin Sheehan scored six for the Crusaders.

Mark Dewberry scored 13 for Shrine.
