FRIDAY’S BOYS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Holly topples rival Brandon; Clarkston, Adams roll

HOLLY — Behind a 16-7 third quarter, Holly was able to create a little breathing room to upend rival Ortonville Brandon, 54-47, in a Flint Metro League girls basketball game Friday.

The Bronchos led 29-26 at the half and 45-33 entering the final frame before Brandon closed the gap down to seven points with a 14-9 fourth quarter.

Jared Plawski scored 15 and both Austin Hopkin and Nic Stoll added 12 points apiece for Holly. Donovan Williams added eight points for the Bronchos.

Quinton Cook scored a game-high 16 points for Brandon, which made eight 3-pointers in the game. Dylan Morris scored nine, all on treys, and Alex Bageris scored eight for the Blackhawks.

CLARKSTON 60, ORCHARD LAKE ST. MARY’S 49: Clarkston opened up the season by grounding the host Eaglets in this non-league contest.

Clarkston led 29-21 at the half and 48-34 through three quarters of play to build a comfortable lead.

Mitch Baenziger nailed three triples and scorched the nets for a game-high 23 points for Clarkston (1-0). Nick Tatu added 15 points, Nick Owens scored 12, all on three-pointers, and Jordan Dauqi chipped in with six points for the Wolves, who canned eight treys on the night.

ROCHESTER ADAMS 51, UTICA EISENHOWER 38: Adams moved to 2-0 on the young season with its second double-digit win of the week.

The Highlanders led 13-6 after the first quarter and 19-15 at the half. Adams blew the tight game open thanks to a 18-7 spurt in the third quarter to build a 37-22 lead.

Akhemji Williams scored 14 points with nine assists for Adams, while Zack Littleson added 12 points and 13 boards for the Highlanders, who had nine players reach the scoring column. Ben Lamb chipped in with seven points for Adams, which made only 11-of-20 free throws.

Alec Frascone scored 11 for Eisenhower and Dan Chmielewski added eight points for the Eagles.

BLOOMFIELD HILLS LAHSER 61, ROCHESTER STONEY CREEK 51: Lahser battled back from a 30-26 halftime deficit to down Stoney Creek in this OAA crossover contest.

The Knights took the lead thanks to a 14-5 third-quarter run, which converted the four-point deficit to a 40-35 advantage. Lahser outscored the Cougars 21-16 in the fourth quarter.

Yante Maten scored a team-high 22 points and Martez Jones added 17 points for Lahser (2-0).

Ben Temrowski drilled a single-game school record nine 3-pointers and finished with a career-high 27 points for Stoney Creek. Zack Sidell and Stephan Makowski added seven points each for the Cougars.

AUBURN HILLS OAKLAND CHRISTIAN 54; BURTON GENESEE CHRISTIAN 31: It was all Oakland Christian Friday in this non-league rout. The Lancers opened with a 17-2 run and never looked back in downing the Soldiers.

Oakland Christian led 29-9 at the half and 42-14 through three quarters of play.

Josh Peterson led a balanced effort for Oakland Christian (2-0). John VanNoord added 12 points, Charles Hayden scored 10 and Drew Perrin chipped in with seven points for the Lancers.

Hunter Selby and Travis Rose both scored 10 for Genesee Christian.

ROCHESTER HILLS CHRISTIAN 75, LAKE ORION BAPTIST 50: Three players landed in double figures in leading host Rochester Hills Christian to this FBAC Red Division win Friday over the Lions.

Nathan Simon scored 21 points to pace the Eagles (4-1, 2-0). Aaron Berry added 18 points and Marquez Hatcher twined 16 points for Rochester Hills Christian, who held the upper hand in all four quarters.

The Eagles led 16-13 at the end of the first quarter and 33-24 at the half. Both teams traded off 19 points in the third quarter, while Rochester Hills closed out with a 23-7 spurt to break open a nine-point contest.

James Noruk 24 points and Mark Dewar added 15 points for Lake Orion Baptist (1-2, 1-1).
