Unbeaten Sacred Heart upends defending Class D champion Lakes

MT. PLEASANT— It’s become a rarity the past three years, but Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes dropped a decision to another Class D girls basketball porgram.

Fellow state power Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart downed the Lakers, 45-36, in a non-conference games Thursday.

Sacred Heart, which improved to 7-0 on the season, led 11-4 after the first quarter but saw Lakes muscle back to an 18-11 surge in the second frame to tie the game at 22-22 at the half.

In the third quarter, Sacred Heart again surged ahead with a 11-6 run for a 33-28 lead, then closed with a 12-8 surge in the fourth quarter.

Michelle Smith scored 15 for Sacred Heart.
