THURSDAY’S GIRLS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Clarkston edges Avondale by a point; Oxford rallies past Harrison

AUBURN HILLS — Clarkston and Auburn Hills Avondale were near-identical twins Thursday night, except for one mere point in the fourth quarter.

Visiting Clarkston outscored Avondale 12-11 in the fourth quarter and that led to a 41-40 OAA Red Division girls basketball triumph

Both teams scored 10 points in the first quarter and traded off 13 points apiece for a 23-23 halftime tie. In the third quarter, both teams scored six points to knot the game at 29-29.

Christina Jokish scored 10 to lead unbeaten Clarkston (8-0, 3-0), while Anna Manilla added eight points.

Hannah Little scored 11 and Quennece Garrison followed with eight points for the Yellowjackets (4-3, 2-1).

OXFORD 34, FARMINGTON HILLS HARRISON 23: Oxford closed with a 16-7 run to help upend Harrison in OAA White Division play.

Harrison led 11-7 after the first quarter, only to see Oxford tie the game at 13-13 at the half and grad an 18-16 edge through three quarters of play.

Miranda Murphy scored 11 and Michelle Gilmore added 10mpoints for Oxford (3-6, 1-3).

Tiera Parker scored seven for Harrison.

TROY 43, NORTH FARMINGTON 33: Troy built a 16-10 lead after the first quarter and slowly pulled away in earning this OAA Red Division win Thursday.

Jasmine Harris finished with 12 points and Kaitlyn Kendall  added nine for North Farmington.

Sabria Cotton scored 10, while Katy McCuish, Sydney Heath and Rachel Zelmanski all scored eight apiece for Troy, which led 27-18 at the half and 37-27 after three quarters.

ROCHESTER STONEY CREEK 47, WEST BLOOMFIELD 38: Stoney creek used a 17-9 advantage after eight minutes of play to propel them to this nine-point OAA Red Division win over the Lakers.

Natalie Voss led three Cougars in double figures with 16 points. Lauren Voss added 14 points and Gabby Yurik scored 13 for Stoney Creek (6-2, 1-2), which led 24-19 at the break and 35-26 entering the fourth quarter.

Sydney Davis, who averages close to 20 points a game, was held to 11points for West Bloomfield. Kheri Motley led the Lakers with 14 points.

LAKE ORION 47, BIRMINGHAM GROVES 39: After falling into a 10-4 hole after the first quarter, Lake Orion rebounded to collect this OAA White Division win.

Marissa Secontine scored 14, Nicole Krier added 11 points and Melanie Heath chipped in with seven points for the Dragons.

Groves led 23-16 at the half, only to see Lake Orion (5-2, 3-0) outscore the Falcons 15-7 in the third quarter for a 31-30 lead. The Dragons closed with a 16-9 run.

Jessica Turner scored 11 and Brianne Rowe and Jackie Geife added eight points apiece for Groves.
