Reversing tend: Oakland Shoots Past IPFW for second straight win

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Following a six-game skid, Oakland is trying to right the ship.

Reggie Hamilton led a charge of five Oakland players in double figures with 30 points and the Golden Grizzlies shot a season-high 48 percent (14-for-29) from 3-point range to defeat IPFW,96-86, on Saturday inside Memorial Coliseum.

Travis Bader added 21 points, Ryan Bass scored a career-high 15 points and Drew Valentine tallied 14 points for Oakland (10-10, 4-4). Corey Petros was the final player in double figures for the Grizzlies with 13 off the bench. Kyle Sikora blocked a career-best four shots and Laval Lucas-Perry grabbed a team-high tying seven rebounds.

The Mastodons also had five players in double figures and shot 53 percent (31-58) in the game. Mario Hines led the way with 20 points off the bench, while Frank Gaines chipped in with 19 for the ‘Dons.

With 11 lead changes in the first half, Oakland would grab the final lead of the game on a season-best eight 3-pointers and shot 50 percent from long range to take a 48-44 lead at halftime. The Golden Grizzlies finished 8 of 16 from behind the arc and Bader drilled a trey as the buzzer sounded to send the team to the locker room up four.

The Golden Grizzlies continued their hot shooting from 3-point range by make 2 of 3 to start the second half and built a 12-point lead, 66-54, with 13:11 remaining. The Mastodons (9-8, 3-5) had a 6-0 run to slice the lead down to six points, 73-67, with just under eight minutes remaining, but Hamilton responded with consecutive buckets and the Grizzlies extended the lead back to 13 points before winning by 10.
