FORT WAYNE, Ind. – A season of struggles has slowly morphed into a three-game win streak for Oakland’s women’s basketball team.

Bethany Watterworth scored 22 points and OU clamped down defensively in the second half for a 67-47 win over IPFW in a Summit League play on Saturday at War Memorial Coliseum.

Brittany Carnago, Sharise Calhoun and Malika Glover all reached double-figures for the Golden Grizzlies, which shot 46.9 percent from the field.

“It feels really good to get a win at IPFW,” said Oakland head coach Beckie Francis. “I am really proud of the team for stepping up and giving extra effort to win in an arena where we haven’t won over the last two years.”

The Golden Grizzlies (8-8, 4-3) outscored IPFW 42-20 in the second half playing efficiently on both ends of the floor. The Oakland defense limited the Mastodons to just 27.6 percent shooting and allowed just 10 points over the first 14:30 of the half. On the offensive end OU hit 59.1 percent from the field in the half and was a perfect 3-for-3 beyond the arc.

With the score tied 35-35, Carnago hit a layup to put OU in front, sparking a 16-2 run. Carnago finished with 12 points and three blocks. Glover scored a season high 10 points and Calhoun also added 10 as nine different players scored for OU. Watterworth was 9-for-14 from the field and hit three 3-pointers, as she scored over 20 points for the seventh time this season.

Oakland trailed by as many as eight points in the first half, but eventually cut the deficit to 27-25 by halftime.  Mur Hagerman scored nine first-half points for IPFW (6-11, 4-3), but did not score in the second half. Amanda Hyde led the IPFW offense with 10 points and was the only Mastodon in double-digits.

Victoria Lipscomb had a game-high eight rebounds and three steals for Golden Grizzlies. OU won the battle of the boards 32-30 and improved to 8-3 when outrebounding opponents. The Golden Grizzlies also earned a 34-10 edge in points in the paint.

Oakland will take its three-game win streak on the road, taking on Oral Roberts Saturday at 3: 05 p.m. at the Mabee Center.
