WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Tomaschko, Newsom pace Rochester College women past Marygrove
ROCHESTER HILLS — Rochester College outscored Metro Detroit rival Marygrove College 30-26 in the second half Thursday, and that was enough to lift the Warriors to a 59-55 non-league women’s basketball victory at Rochester High School.
The two rivals battled to a 29-29 draw at the half.
Sam Tomaschko collected 17 points with nine rebounds to pace Rochester College. Lexy Newsom (Rochester Adams) added 13 points and a game-high eight assists and Ka’imana Ka’aikala twined 12 points for the Warriors, all from three-point range.
Marygrove was led by Adrienne Weaver’s game-high 18 points. Keara Marks added 11 points and Shantinique Baker had eight rebounds for Marygrove, which finished the night shooting just a disastrous 27 percent from the foul line.
Rochester College finished the night shooting 92 percent from the charity stripe to pull away.
Rochester College’s next game is Jan. 21 at Kuyper College. Tip is set for 1 p.m.
