TUESDAY’S GIRLS BASKETBALL ROUND: Rochester Hills Christian clinches FBAC-Red title; Clarkston thumps Rochester to remain unbeaten, Clio upsets Holly
ROCHESTER HILLS — Before 2010, Rochester Hills Christian had won just one league championship in girls basketball.
That came in the fall of 2000, when the Eagles shared the Fundamental Baptist Athletic Conference Red Division.
Now, Rochester Hills Christian has captured back-to-back titles for the first time in school history. After winning the 2010-11 league championship, the Eagles put the finishing touches its second straight.
The Eagles edged longtime nemesis Troy Bethany Christian, 51-50, at home Tuesday, to clinch the league title.
Sophomore forward Kindra Armitage had 14 points to lead the Eagles (13-3, 7-0). Freshman Jenna Porter had 13 points and seven rebounds, Allise DuBay had 10 points and 10 assists, and Ashley Parker had 10 points and 13 rebounds for Rochester Hills (13-3, 7-0). Sarah Bishop had 19 points, and Lianne Sprankle had 13 points for Bethany Christian.
CLARKSTON 54, ROCHESTER 14: Clarkston continued its best start in school history Tuesday with this OAA crossover rout.
The Wolves (14-0) sent nine players into the scoring column, led By Erin Davenport’s 13 points. Delaney Kenny added 12 points and Megan Hastings chipped in with 11 points.
Clarkston led 14-5 by the end of the first quarter and 26-11 at the half. The Wolves outscored Rochester 28-3 in the second half.
Anne Tucker scored eight of her team’s 14 points for Rochester (4-9), which was held to only five field goals.
CLIO 47, HOLLY 37: Alison Kitchen scored a game-high 19 points in leading the Tigers to the Flint Metro League victory.
Allyssa Copley scored 13 points and Lauren Maher added nine points, al on three-pointers, for Holly.
Clio led 18-10 at the half before outscoring the Bronchos 29-127 in the second half.
BERKLEY 41, ROCHESTER ADAMS 36: Berkley handed Adams just its second league loss I the OAA White Division Tuesday.
Arica McCray scored 16 and both Lucy McNally and Diamond Wilford scored eight apiece for the Bears (6-8, 4-5), who trailed 16-13 at the half but took control with a 20-5 run in the third quarter.
Amber Jamison scored 13 and Lauren Boyle added nine points for Adams (9-4, 8-2).
