BOYS BASKETBALL: Bethany Christian Rochester Hills in MACS tourney; Stateline Christian trumps Lake Orion Baptist, Berean halts Springfield Christian

CLARKSTON — Troy Bethany Christian and Rochester Hills Christian split during the regular season en route to sharing the Fundamental Baptist Athletic Conference Red Division boys basketball title.

The rubber match Saturday was not even close.

Troy Bethany rolled past Rochester Hills Christian, 52-35, in a Michigan Association of Christian Schools Division I section game.

Troy Bethany led 27-18 at the half.

Junior Ryan Woodham scored 18 for Troy Bethany (15-6). Senior forward Daniel Sprankle added 16 points for the Bruins, who are ranked sixth in the state.

Bethany Christian will face Temperance Stateline Christian in the next round at a site and time to be determined on Monday.

Rochester Hills, ranked third, was led by senior Nathan Simon’s 12 points, Sophomores Marquez Hatcher and Aaron Berry added 10 points apiece for the Eagles (16-6).

TEMPERANCE STATELINE CHRISTIAN 77, LAKE ORION BAPTIST 46: Stateline Christian shot 53 percent from the floor and the Patriots toasted the Lions in a MACS Division I sectional contest Friday in Temperance.

Stateline Christian (16-6) led 28-14 by the end of the first quarter and never looked back. The Patriots went on a 17-11 surge in the second quarter for a 45-25 lead at the half.

In the third frame, the Patriots added to the damage with a 20-12 run in the third quarter to put the game away.

Senior Todd Gardiner scored a game-high 36 points with eight steals and seven assists to lead Stateline Christian. Sophomore Daniel Ellerbrouck added 20 points for the Patriots.

Senior James Noruk bowed out with 21 points and seven rebounds for Lake Orion Baptist. Sophomore forward Mark Dewar added 15 points and eight rebounds and freshman James Noruk supplied eight points and five rebounds.

MACS DIVISION II

 

 

ADRIAN BEREAN BAPTIST 69, CLARKSTON SPRINGFIELD CHRISTIAN 52: The Bobcats overcame a scare to ousts the Eagles in a MACS Division II sectionals contest at Adrian Middle School.

Berean Baptist (17-10) 38-19 at the half, only to see Springfield Christian rally back to tie the game at 47-47 entering the fourth quarter.

The Bobcats outscored Springfield 22-5 in the fourth period to advance to the next round, where Berean Baptist will play the winner of Coruna Immanuel Christian and Midland Christian at a site and time to be determined. The Midland-Immanuel contest will be made up Monday.

Ryan Helinski scored 28 points to lead Berean Baptist. Brandon Jordan added 14 points, Drew Helinski scored 13 points and Ben Waters scored nine for the Bobcats.

Daniel Alonzi scored 21 points for Springfield Christian, which bowed out with a 4-16 record.

    Its amazing to me that epdpossuly good Christians like the Baptists claim to be cannot get along with each other. I have known Baptist congretations all my life, and its always been that way. They were the first to get into a fuss and a handful run out and start another church. Now their “radicalness” has turned into the Cult variety. Its our way or the highway. If I were a baptist and that will never happen, I would certainly take the highway.DRust
