CLARKSTON — Earlier in the week, Rochester Hills Christian girls basketball coach Paula Bronsing scouted a game featuring Lake Orion and Midland Calvary Baptist, a pair of teams that will be in the Michigan Association of Christian Schools Division I State tournament.

In the game, won by Lake Orion Baptist, the Lions’ Breanne Watterworth broke loose for 51 points and 34 rebounds, which are both conference records in the Fundamental Baptist Conference league records, in a 62-51 victory over Midland Calvary.

Rochester Hills held Watterworth scoreless in a 51-9 victory in a MACS Division I sectional opener.

Freshman guard Jenna Porter scored 18 points for Rochester Hills Christian (17-4), which will play next week at a site and date to be determined against. Senior guard Allise Dubay added 17 points and 12 steals, one off the single-game school record, sophomore Kindra Armitage scored eight and freshman forward Ashley Parker scored seven with nine rebounds.

The playmaker of the game was 6-foot-2 senior center Kaylee Gajowiak, who drew the defensive assignment of guard the 6-2½ Watterworth, who came in averaging around 20 points and 20 rebounds a contest. Watterworth had 12 boards and was shut out for the first time in her career.

“Kaylee Gajowiak played amazing defense on Watterworth,” praised Bronsing.  “She got her two quick fouls in the first minute of the game, one over the back and one shooting foul, which caused Watterworth to have to sit for a while. Kaylee did her best to not even let Watterworth touch the ball. She did an amazing job and kept her scoreless. This would have been a much tougher game if it wasn’t for Kaylee.”

Rochester Hills Christian will face the winner of the Troy Bethany Christian-Clinton Township Faith Christian net week at a site and date to be determined. The Bethany-Faith game will be made up on Monday.

“Lake Orion played very well considering they were missing their point, Kara Sanders,” added Bronsing, whose team reach the state semifinals last season for the first time in school history but was upset in that round despite being ranked No.1 in the MACS.

The Eagles are currently ranked second behind Carson City Fellowship Baptist, which was ranked second last season and was upset in the semifinals as well.

Senior forward Jill Streetman scored seven of her team’s nine points for Lake Orion Baptist (4-11).
