THURSDAY’S BOYS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Oxford records most wins since 1949; Clarkston goes unbeaten in OAA-Red
OXFORD — In 1949, Oxford finished 17-2 in boys basketball and won league and district championships that year.
The Wildcats have not won more than 13 games in the past 62 season until now.
Oxford capped the regular seasons with their 14th win in 20 starts, downing visiting Bloomfield Hills Andover, 78-72.
Mark Hazelwood scored 20 in his final home game, while junior Nate Brubaker added 14 points and 12 rebounds, both career highs, and Ben Magdaleno tossed in 12 points on four three pointers, or Oxford. Jacques Toussaint also scored nine for the Wildcats (14-6, 7-3).
Marcus McQueen scored 20 and Marlon Pruitt added 16 points for Andover.
Oxford led 49-33 at the half before Andover held a39-29 edge in the second half.
CLARKSTON 70, WEST BLOOMFIELD 35: Clarkston wrapped up a perfect season in the OAA Red Division with this 35-point win Thursday.
Clarkston sent 12 of 15 players into the scoring column, led by Mitch Baenziger’s 13 points. Jordan Dasuqi added 12 pints, Nick Tatu scored 11, Mark Tynan added eight points and Alan Kamieniecki for the Wolves (18-2, 12-0), who made eight 3-pointers in the contest.
Malik Humes scored 12 for West Bloomfield, which was held to only 12 field goals.
Clarkston led 42-17 at the half and 58-24 through three quarters of play.
TROY ATHENS 57, LAKE ORION 54: Marcarious Coakley returned to the lineup and Athens turned back Lake Orion Thursday in OAA Blue Division play.
Coakley scored a game-high 24 points, while Caleb McIntosh added 16 points for the Red Hawks (14-6, 5-5).
Chaz Miller scored 10 for Lake Orion (12-7, 4-5).
ROCHESTER 51, BIRMINGHAM SEAHOLM 48: Rochester received a scare on the road Thursday, but still retained its 18-game win streak with this three-point win.
Paris Pereria scored 23 and Taylor Perry added 17 points for Rochester (18-1, 9-0).
The Falcons went on a 17-7 run to tie the game at 36-36 entering the fourth quarter, then surged ahead with a 15-12 run to close out.
Paris Bass had 19 points and Brett Houghton added 13 points for Seaholm (12-8, 5-5), which led 29-19 at the half.
FARMINGTON 38, ROCHESTER STONEY CREEK 36: Stoney Creek came two points shy of its first win of the season, despite a 13-8 fourth-quarter rally.
Stephan Makowski scored nine for Stoney Creek (0-20, 0-10).
Bryan Green had 15 points and Chris Morgan added 11 points for Farmington (12-8, 6-4).
HOLLY 68, FLUSHING 38: Isaac Casillas scored a career-high 15 points to lead Holly to the none-league win and a 15-5 regular season record.
Austin Hopkin also scored 15 and Jared Plawski chipped in with 12 points for the Bronchos.
Jordan White scored 10 for Flushing.
