GIRLS BASKETBALL DISTRICT FINALS ROUNDUP: Kettering edges Avondale; Capac ousts Notre Dame Prep

AUBURN HILLS — Waterford Kettering outscored Avondale 31-23 in the second half to edge host Auburn Hills Avondale 39-32 Friday in a Class A girls basketball district final.

The state-ranked Captains (21-2) advance to the Lake Orion regional Tuesday to face Southfield Lathrup.

Using a stall tactic, Avondale led 9-8 at the half but couldn’t keep any momentum in the second half and shot under 40 percent from the floor for the game.

Alison Bicknell scored 12 to pace Kettering, while Arjanai Washington added 11 points for the Captains, who were 11-for-15 from the foul line to help them pull away.

Hannah Little scored 10 and Quennece Garrison chipped in with nine points for the Yellowjackets (16-7).

CLASS B

CAPAC 41, PONTIAC NOTRE DAME PREP 36: Notre Dame Prep’s road ended at the hands of district host Capac Friday night.

Capac is 18-5 and advances to the Notre Dame Prep regional Tuesday.

NDP led 19-8 after the first quarter and 23-14 at the half. The Fighting Irish could not sustain the momentum in the final two quarters.

Nichole Parks led Capac with 20 points, while Sarah Mousseau had nine points. Whitney Paddock added seven points.

Sarah Lewallen scored 13 and Alexa Cannon chipped in with eight points for Notre Dame Prep (11-11), which finished 1-of-10 from the charity stripe in the five-point loss.
