| March 9, 2012 | Comments (3)

WATERFORD — The members of Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes’ girls basketball program probably don’t mind a little déjà vu this time of year, as long as the Lakers keep winning in the postseason.

It’s a case of been there, done that.

WOLL, the two-time defending state champs in Class D, took another step towards defending its crown Thursday night on its home floor, running visiting Westland Lutheran out of the gym with a 65-37 victory.

Lakes (20-4), which has only lost once to a Class D team this season — and that was without three key players — captured its fourth straight regional title with the 28-point win. The Lakers will now play in the state quarterfinals Tuesday against Saginaw Michigan Lutheran Seminary and will stay close to home with the game at Waterford Kettering.

Lakes drilled 10 three pointers in the contest and were 7-for-10 from the foul line.

Lakes wasted no time in building a massive lead, as it rolled out to a 28-11 advantage after the first quarter. Another 16-7 run in the second frame put this game away, as the Lakers led44-18 at the half.

WOLL outscored Westland Lutheran 12-10 in the third quarter for a 54-28 advantage entering the fourth stanza.

Post players Amanda Terranella scored 19 and Aldreana Fikes added 10 points for the Warriors (16-9), who only had four players score points.

WOLL landed four players in double figures in the win, led by 18 points from Carlee Cottrell. Ava Doetsch scored 15 points, making a trio of three-pointers, Lexie Robak contributed 14 points on the strength of four triples and Tori Duffey scooped up 11 points for the Lakers.

Our Lady of the Lakes has been to the state quarterfinals the past three years. In 2009, the Lakers lost in the quarters to rival Marine City Cardinal Mooney, while the past two years as the finished as state champions.
