TUESDAY’S GIRLS SOCCER ROUNDUP: Oxford routs West Bloomfield; Troy blanks Lake Orion

OXFORD — Oxford ushered in the new girls soccer season Tuesday with an explosive win over defending OAA white Division champion West Bloomfield, 8-0.

Oxford scored three times in the first half and five more times in the second half to prevail.

Chelsea Johnson scored twice to lead the Wildcats (1-0-0, 1-0-0). Paige Brinker added two second-half goals, while Breanna Johnson, Sam Medici, Melissa Geirak and Allana Carroll had single goals for Oxford.

Darien Bandel notched the shutout.

TROY 2, LAKE ORION 0: Troy scored twice in the first half and opened up OAA Red Division play with this shutout of the visiting Dragons.

Irene Young scored the first goal and Jenna Cabelof had a goal and an assist for the colts. Phylisha Drayton added an assist and Allison Hollnad picked up the shutout for Troy (1-0-0, 1-0-0).

Emily Purdy had 13 saves for Lake Orion (2-2-0, 0-1-0).

CLARKSTON 1, BERKLEY 1: Both teams traded off second-half goals in this OAA Red Division match Tuesday in Clarkston.

Sydney Ostentoski scored for Berkley (0-0-1, 0-0-1), while Lisa Lyons tied the game for Clarkston.

Katie Miller made three saves for Berkley, while Julie Shields had five stops for Berkley.


ROCHESTER STONEY CREEK 8, AUBURN HILLS AVONDALE 1:
Stoney Creek had an impressive showing Tuesday with the rare rout in OAA Red Division play.

Leading 4-1 at the half, the Cougars tacked on four more goals in the final 40 minutes.

Madison Toth tied the game at 1-1 for Stoney Creek (2-0-0, 1-0-0). Maddie Lucci scored twice, while Carina Wilden , Joanie Sieja, Hannah Darin, Cat Mechler and Maria Zandi tallied for Stoney Creek.

Jessica Creech scored for Avondale (0-2-0, 0-1-0).
