Clarkston

HEAD COACH: Stephanie Dellinger, second season.

2011 RECORD: 11-4-0, 5-0-0 OAA White Division (first).

2011 STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost to Brighton in division 1 regional semifinals.

RETURNING STARTERS: Stephanie Dellinger, sr. M (All-League, All-State Honorable Mention, All-Area); Lauren Sharkey,  jr. M (All-League, All-State Honorable Mention, All-Area); Danielle Dunn, jr. M (All-League, All-Area); Brittney Jaynes, jr. A; Kylie Cohu, sr. G (All-Area); Paige Miller, sr. D (All-Area); Ashley Piper, sr. D; Whitney Kelley, sr. D; Rachel Manssur, sr. D.

OTHER KEY RETURNEES:  None. Clarkston had mostly seniors off its bench last season, many which were first-year varsity players.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Mary Schlaff, fr. A; Anna Gray, jr. A.

KEY LOSSES: None.

NOTABLES: Under a coaching change and better organization last season, Clarkston was as improved of a team in Oakland County last season, winning its first league title in the program’s five-year history. With nine starters back in uniform, including all of the Wolves’ top players who earned postseason honors last June, this team could be one to watch on the state radar as a squad worthy of a lengthy postseason run. The Wolves’ only major area of concern might be depth, as 10 of the 19 players are first-year varsity performers. Clarkston should be one of the better teams in the two-division OAA this spring.

Lake Orion

HEAD COACH: Bill Booth, fourth season.

2011 RECORD: 9-7-1, 3-2 OAA White Division (tied-second).

2011 STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Division 1 pre-regional to Clarkston (15-5).

RETURNING STARTERS: Mallory DeMott, sr. CM; Kaileen Tweedie, sr. M; Rachel Cech, jr. M; Tiffanie Smrtnik, jr.G.

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Emily Hendrix, jr. M; Melissa O’Keefe, jr. D; Beth Giguere, jr. M; Miranda Lieblein, jr. M; Madison Barry, sr. D; Monica Arpino, sr. M; Megan Kelley, sr. D.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Melissa Harcourt, jr. A; Nicole Cox, soph. D; Marta Davila, sr. D; Amanda Vaughn, jr. G/D; Laura Gonda, jr. A.

KEY LOSSES: Paige Hammerl, A (All-Area, All-OAA); Jessica Smude, M (All-Area, All-OAA); Ashley Dakki, D (All-Area, All-OAA); Ronnie Booth, M (All-Area, All-OAA).

NOTABLES: Lake Orion faces he task of trying to replace plenty of firepower that graduated in both 2011 and 2010.

Oxford

HEAD COACH: Andrew Bausack, first season.

2011 RECORD: Operated as club last season. Oxford will compete in the OAA White Division this season for league play.

2011 STATE TOURNAMENT: None. Not eligible for postseason play. The Wildcats will compete in Division 2 this season.

RETURNING STARTERS: Brooklyn Allen, sr. A; Madi Eschberger, soph. A; Brenda Flasher, jr. A; Riley Hayes, jr. D; Abi Hornung, soph. A; Emma Kimmel, jr. M; Jordan Pieczynski, jr. M; Lindsey Workman, sr. M; Abby Wrobel, jr. D; Caitlyn Wroblewski, jr. G.

OTHER KEY RETURNEES:  Sam Hofer, sr. D.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Brittany Basela, sr. A; Kayce Calcaterra, fr. A; Savannah Fullmer, fr. D; Brooke Grubb, sr. D; Kayli Kammerer, sr. D; Sam Myers, sr. M; Lauren Ubbing,jr. M.

KEY LOSSES: None.

NOTABLES: Oxford played a scant group of games last season as a club and competed as an independent with no postseason. There are 11 returning players on an 18-player roster as the Wildcats delve into the world of varsity lacrosse. There are no big expectations, except for this group to come together as a unit and become more competitive by season’s end.

Pontiac Notre Dame Prep

HEAD COACH: Aurora Zinck

2011 RECORD:

2011 STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Division 2 pore-regional to Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood (19-5).

RETURNING STARTERS:

OTHER KEY RETURNEES:

KEY NEWCOMERS:

KEY LOSSES:

NOTABLES: A 0-4-0 start heading into this week may indicate a rebuilding year for the Fighting Irish. NDP lost to Rochester Stoney Creek (10-9), Bloomfield Hills Unified (19-12), Livonia Ladywood (18-9) and Flint Powers Catholic (19-10).

Rochester

HEAD COACH: Dave Hamel, eighth season.

2011 RECORD: 9-6, 3-2-0 OAA White Division (second).

2011 STATE TOURNAMENT: Defeated Warren Regina (17-12); lost in Division 2 regional semifinals to Bloomfield Hills Sacred Heart (18-9).

RETURNING STARTERS: Aly Rosenau , sr. G(hold most school single-game, season and career goaltending records; .550 save percentage last season); Jordin Pardoski, sr. M (fourth-year starter, 28 goals last season; singed with Penn State for hockey; All-Area, All-OAA); Katie Krako, sr. A (16 goals, nine assists); Natalie Prisciandaro, sr. M (10 goals); Samantha Blair, sr. M; Rachel Gendich, sr. D; Kirsten Laux, sr. D; Michaela Penberthy, sr. D.

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Kylie Gray, sr. A; Karoline Newer, sr. M; Leah Mazzara, sr. A.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Jessica Leininger, fr. A; Renee Soulliere, fr. M; Olivia Lord, soph. M; Abby Cowan, fr. D; Megan Jose, soph. D.

KEY LOSSES: Maggie Ng, A (72 goals; All-Area, All-OAA); Caitlyn Cricelli, D; Sydney Jonas, D; Emily Skubic, A (25 goals).

NOTABLES: Two years ago Rochester won its first league title and last year the Falcons finish another winning record. It appears that Rochester is becoming much more grounded and competitive on a consistent basis. Although not yet in the same category with some of the state powerhouses, expect the Falcons to contend with Clarkston for the league title this season and to post another winning record.

Rochester Adams

HEAD COACH: Vittoria Wallace, first season.

2011 RECORD: 1-14-0, 0-5-0 OAA White Division (sixth).

2011 STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Division 2 pre-regional to Rochester Stoney Creek (11-6).

RETURNING STARTERS: Greta Meloff, sr. LA; Vivian Lin, soph. LA; Emily Deane, soph. D; Olivia Salmon, sr. M; Lindsay Janes, sr. M; Abi Dickinson, sr. M; Katherine Kinnie, sr. A; Mackenzie Soma, sr. M; Emily Burns, sr. D; Ciera Curtis, soph. M.

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Corrine Calhoun, jr. A; Carly Densmore, soph. A/M; Briana Berger, soph. D.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Krista Affholter, jr. M; Julia Reso, jr. M.

KEY LOSSES: None.

NOTABLES:  There is only one way to go and that is up. Adams was a first-year program last year splintering off from the Rochester Stoney Creek program and had just four players with any type of experience.

Rochester Stoney Creek

HEAD COACH: Haley Noonan, fourth season.

2011 RECORD: 8-6-0, 2-3-0 OAA White Division (fourth).

2011 STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost to Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood in Division 2 regional semifinals (19-5).

RETURNING STARTERS: Kendra Gill, soph. G.

OTHER KEY RETURNEES:

KEY NEWCOMERS:

KEY LOSSES: Bri Johnson, M (All-OAA, All-Area); Jacquline Cox, D (All-Area, All-League).

NOTABLES: Last season was the Cougars’ first as a stand-alone program, as Rochester Adams pulled away to from its own squad. The Cougars must replace its all-time leading scorer in Bri Johnson (60 goals last season) in its offensive schemes if it is to remain competitive. Stoney Creek dropped its opener to Troy Athens last week (10-5).

Troy

HEAD COACH: Allison Atchoo, second season.

2011 RECORD: 10-5-2, 4-2-1 OAA Red Division (third).

2011 STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Division 1 pre-regional to Birmingham Marian (16-5).

RETURNING STARTERS: Claire Johnston, jr.  DW; Rachel Sacco, jr. G; Haley Burns, jr. A (All-State Honorable Mention, All-OAA, All-Area); Kristine Barlow, sr. A; Theresa Burez, jr. A.

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Lilia Sachovska, jr. D; Jackie Benton, jr. CM; Carly Pollina, jr. D; Nicole Pollina, sr. A; Dianna Maloney, sr. A; Dianna Maolney, sr. A; Sarah Gorgrave, sr. A.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Angela Xiao, fr. D; Jessica Baranowski, sr. A; Miranda Mio, sr. A; Sruthi Dinaklaran, jr. A; Christina Shabet, soph. D; Bridget Vanden Branden, soph. CM; Apara Sivaraman, soph. A; Cara Burns, fr. D; Karin Moss, sr. D.

KEY LOSSES: Kristin Soriede, M (50 goals; All-Area, All-League, All-State Second Team); Jessica Benton, M (All-League, All-Area, All-State Honorable Mention); Kathy Maher-Edgin, D (All-League, All-Area, All-State Honorable Mention); Susan Blake, D; Emma Green, D.

NOTABLES: Always a formidable group and one of the more consistent programs in the two-tier OAA, Troy has graduated a ton of firepower the past two years. This will create new opportunity for some of the younger Colts coming up through the ranks. Who will step up and become the go-to players? Troy only returns one key goal-scorer (Haley Burns) and has nine newcomers and seven bench players back compared to only five returning starters.

Troy Athens

HEAD COACH: Rob Holder, 10th season

2011 RECORD: 6-10-0, 0-5-0 OAA Red Division (sixth).

2011 STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Division 2 pre-regional to Bloomfield Hills Sacred Heart (16-6).

RETURNING STARTERS: Becca Chen, jr. M; Shelby Halpin, jr. A; Monique Thakur, sr. M; Jill Dougherty, soph. A; Andrea Bianchini, sr. M; Alyssa Stark-Norton, sr. M; Lauren Bilinski, sr. D.

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Lindsey Kinaia, sr. A; Jena Peterson, soph. A; Angelica Fernandez, jr. A; Maddie Ross, sr. G; Jenny Park, sr. A; Elizabeth Stuart, sr. M; Tara Kujawa, sr. D; Laura Demarco, sr. A; Dalia Khader, jr. D; Melissa Deacon, sr. D.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Morgan Bommarito, soph. M; Kate Dickerson, sr. M; Alex Catallo, jr. D; Lauren Renou,  jr. M; Lauren Taylor, jr. M.

KEY LOSSES: Devon Gac, G; Kathryn Wellein, M.

NOTABLES: The bad news for the Red Hawks is that they have been down the past couple of years after being a respectable team during much of the last decade. The good news for Athens is that they have seven returning starters, 11 total seniors and 17total players with varsity experience. If there is any hope, it will be on that this is an experienced group hungry to climb back over the five-hundred mark. The only major holes to fill will be in goal and in the center of the midfield.
