PACK LEADER: Lake Orion’s TJ Carey (left) and Justin Prawdzik exchange are two of the top performers fro the the Dragons, who are eying league, regional and county crowns this season.

NOTABLES: Avondale had two of the state’s better track athletes on the sideline last season with Kyle Redwine and Zac Miklja both suffering injuries. Even without them, the Yellowjackets were third in the state. With them, they would have won the state title. Although this team lost several key components to graduation, there is still plenty of talent on the squad and Avondale will score plenty of points at larger meets and contend for the OAA Blue Division title, its new home.

Auburn Hills Oakland Christian

HEAD COACH: Chuck Snyder, seventh season.

LEAGUE TOURNAMENT FINISH: First at MIAC league meet (170 points).

FINAL LEAGUE FINISH: First in final MIAC standings.

COUNTY FINISH: Did not score.

REGIONAL FINISH: Second at Division 4 Webberville regional (90 points).

STATE FINALS FINISH: 11th at Division 4 state finals (17points).

JUMPS: Chris Krieg, jr.

THROWS: Josh Peterson, sr.

NOTABLES: The past 6-7 years has seen the Lancers excel with a pipeline of quality athletes. Unfortunately, a bulk of those standouts have graduated, leaving Oakland Christian trying to retool its lineup with many younger, unproven athletes. A repeat of a league championship is not a reality.

Clarkston

HEAD COACH: John Bennick, fifth season.

2011 RECORD: 1-5-0, 1-5-0 OAA Red Division.

LEAGUE TOURNAMENT FINISH: Fourth at OAA Red Division league meet (71 points).

FINAL LEAGUE FINISH: Fifth in final OAA Red Division standings (six points).

SPRINTS: Mike Schwartz, sr.; Devon Williams, sr.; Tristan Tozzi, jr.; Jared Yaroch, jr.; Ian Erickson, soph.; Blake Sutherland, jr.

HURDLES: Travis Smith, sr.; Mitchell McCord, soph.; Caine Watlington, soph.; Andrew Swanson, soph.;

MIDDLE DISTANCE: Adam Bruderick, sr.; Spencer Pawlik, sr.; Ian Brennan, jr.

LONG DISTANCE: Sam Tanelian, jr.; Austin Dravling, jr.; Daniel Byrne, sr.; Nathan Heiermann, soph.; Nick Moore, jr.; Michael Culver, sr.

KEY LOSSES: Brian Benway (jumps, sprints); Jacob Turner (jumps); Austin Yarger (distance); Mike McCord (middle distance); Brent Cousino (hurdles); Alan Kamieniecki, sr. (middle distance; injured); Rawley Hallman (middle distance).

NOTABLES: With most of its team back, Clarkston should be one of the area’s most improved squads and should be one of the better teams in the OAA-Red and Brandon regional this season. There is also a solid core of athletes that can entertain realistic sights on qualifying for the state meet.

Holly

HEAD COACH: Rob Badysilo.

2011 RECORD: 8-0, 8-0 Flint Metro League.

LEAGUE TOURNAMENT FINISH: First at Flint Metro League meet (175.5 points).

FINAL LEAGUE FINISH: First in final Flint Metro League standings (18 points).

COUNTY FINISH: 21st (12 points).

MIDDLE DISTANCE: Luke Schwerin, sr.; Hunter Hooper, sr.; Austin Chmura, fr.; Zach Diehl, jr.; Jarrod Schuerman, jr.; Joe Kowalski, fr.; Dino Vivanco, fr.; Austin Clear, soph.

LONG DISTANCE: Vince Cantu, soph.; Nate Frasier, fr.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Joe Kowalski, fr.; Dino Vivanco, fr.; Nate Frasier, fr.

KEY LOSSES: Joe Spencer (jumps); TJ Peake (jumps); Luke Reynolds (jumps); Davis Nixon (middle distance); Mike McCarty (middle distance); Keon Ellison (middle distance); Dallas Crandall (hurdles); Josh Legant (hurdles); Mike Spencer (hurdles); Anderius Gray (sprints).

NOTABLES: One of the top teams in the Flint Metro League in the past decade, the Bronchos have enjoyed plenty of success. Two years ago holly finished third at the D-1 state meet. Back-to-back large graduating classes signals that the Bronchos might dip somewhat this season, but by no means will they completely fall off the radar, at least at the league and regional level. There are still some quality athletes to keep Holly very competitive.

Lake Orion

HEAD COACH: Stan Ford.

2011 RECORD: 5-1-0, 5-1-0 OAA Red Division.

LEAGUE TOURNAMENT FINISH: Second at OAA Red Division league meet (91 points).

FINAL LEAGUE FINISH: Second in final OAA Red Division standings (10 points).

COUNTY FINISH: Ninth (25 points).

REGIONAL FINISH: Sixth (62.5 points).

STATE FINALS FINISH: Tied for 53rd at Division 1 state finals (four points).

JUMPS: Joe Deneau, jr.; Zach Arnold, soph.

THROWS: Davis Rossman, sr.; Tyler Eschendall, jr.

SPRINTS: Nick Balavich, sr.; Zach Arnold, soph.; Corey Ester, soph.; Chris Leigh, soph.; Joe Deneau, jr.; Dashawn Tolbert, sr.; Austin Arnold, jr.

HURDLES: Alex Roberts, sr.; Michael Roberts, sr.; Charlie Mauer, sr.; Jordan Waymer, jr.

MIDDLE DISTANCE: George Modrak, jr.; David Diaz, soph.; David Arenz, soph.; Kirk Hanson, soph.; Justin Prawdzik, sr.

LONG DISTANCE: TJ Carey, jr. (three-time all-stater in cross country); Aaron Kaufmann, sr.; Ryan Singles, sr.; Jacob Houlihan, jr.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Chris Leigh, soph.

KEY LOSSES: Danny Ney (sprints); Jake Lauka (distances); Brad Cross (distances); Matt Emerick (middle distances); Taylor Jongekrieg (jumps); Jeremy Nixon (hurdles, jumps); KJ Ester (sprints); Dom Arnold (sprints).

NOTABLES: Always a contender in Oakland County and the OAA Red Division, Lake Orion might have its stars aligned just right to have perhaps its best season to date. There is a plethora of big-meet performers throughout the lineup and the Dragons will be favored to win every meet leading up to the state finals, where they could very well become a top-10 team. There are 120 athletes on the roster, by far the biggest team in the area by a wide margin. In certain events, the Dragons have so much interchangable depth, that there will be some tough decisions to make come the championship season, especially with the four relays.

Ortonville Brandon

HEAD COACH:

2011 RECORD: 2-6, 2-6 Flint Metro League meet.

LEAGUE TOURNAMENT FINISH: Seventh at Flint Metro League meet (18 points).

FINAL LEAGUE FINISH: Seventh in final Flint Metro League standings (six points).

COUNTY FINISH: Did not score.

REGIONAL FINISH: 15th at Division 1 Ortonville Brandon regional (six points).

STATE FINALS FINISH: Did not score at Division 1 state finals.

JUMPS: Cody Haragos, jr. (league champ in pole vault).

THROWS: Larry Bland, jr.; Keegan Harrington, soph.

SPRINTS: Derek Klanke, jr.; Nick Wummel, jr.; Eric VanDenBossche, sr.; Matt Sears, soph.

HURDLES: Eric VanDenBossche, sr.; Robert Fisher, soph.

MIDDLE DISTANCE: Taras Thronson, soph.; Nolan Ladd, soph.

LONG DISTANCE: Kyle Doyon, soph.; Joe Haase, fr.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Joe Haase, fr.

NOTABLES: Brandon barely scratched the surface at the FML and regional levels last season. Although there is some younger talent coming up in the ranks, the Blackhawks might only be able to move up a couple of slots in the league and are in an extremely difficult region this season at home and points will likely be scarce.

Oxford

HEAD COACH: Bob Blunk, second season.

2011 RECORD: 4-0-0, 4-0-0 OAA White Division (one league dual meet was cancelled).

LEAGUE TOURNAMENT FINISH: First at OAA White Division league meet (175 points).

FINAL LEAGUE FINISH: First in final OAA White Division standings (10 points).

COUNTY FINISH: Third (47 points).

REGIONAL FINISH: Second at Division 1 Ortonville Brandon regional (10 points).

STATE FINALS FINISH: 33rd at Division 1 state finals (seven points).

JUMPS: Dallas Pruitt, fr.; Erick Vandecar, jr.; Cody Westmoreland, sr. (state qualifier in pole vault).

THROWS: Seth Miller, jr.; Logan Money, jr.

SPRINTS: Mike Tuski, jr.; Cody Westmoreland, sr.

HURDLES: Doug Klimbal, sr.; Mike Tuski, jr.; Erick Vandecar, jr.

MIDDLE DISTANCE: Glacier Wallington, fr.; James Patrick, jr.; Anthony Cappuccilli, sr.; Mike Tuski, jr.

KEY LOSSES: Aaron Stuk (All-State hurdler); Anthony McDugald (state qualifier; sprints); Darren Lumpkin (state qualifier; sprints); Terrance Webb (state qualifier; jumps, sprints, hurdles); Dillon Smith (distance); Collin Goetz, sr. (11th in state in shot put; not competing); Prescott Line, sr. (throws; Mr. Football; state champ in wrestling; not competing); Chris Sachs, jr. (jumps, sprints, not competing); Sir Ralph Rodriguez (throws); Marco Bonfiglio, sr. (jumps; not competing); Ken Coffman (throws); Mike Cynowa (sprints); Mike Kocher (middle distance)

NOTABLES: Between losing more than a dozen athletes to graduation, the Wildcats suffered a hug blow with several peak performers opting not to compete this season, plus a rash of injuries will slow this team early in the season. The Wildcats, now in the OAA Red Division, are in for a rough ride this season.

Pontiac

HEAD COACH:

2011 RECORD: 3-2-0, 3-2-0 OAA Gold Division.

LEAGUE TOURNAMENT FINISH: Third at OAA Gold Division meet (89 points).

FINAL LEAGUE FINISH: Third in final OAA Gold Division standings (eight points).

COUNTY FINISH:  22nd (10 points).

REGIONAL FINISH: 11th at Division 1 Ortonville Brandon regional (20 points).

STATE FINALS FINISH: Did not score at Division 1 state finals.

THROWS: Joshua Guy, jr.

JUMPS: Roosevelt Wheeler, jr.; Ryan Brown, sr.; Darquarius Hollis, soph.

SPRINTS: Jeffrey Johnson, sr.; Marques Webb, sr.; Kenyatta Metoyer, sr.; Ronnie Craft-Bush, sr.; Roosevelt Wheeler, jr.; Ryan Brown, sr.

HURDLES: Tarentay Washington, jr.

MIDDLE DISTANCE: Darquarius Hollis, soph.; Davion Logan, soph.; De’Quandrey Manley, sr.

KEY LOSSES: Jovony Torres (throws); Reginald Washington (jumps, sprints); Quashon Logan (middle distance); Terry Douglas (sprints); Mark Cargle (sprints); Lanse Alexander (hurdles).

NOTABLES: Pontiac shifts from the OAA-Gold to the OAA-Blue and has an arsenal of quality sprinters that will aid them at all meets. The Phoenix do lack some punch in the middle and upper distances which will likely keep them out of the league hunt. Pontiac is far from the glory days of Pontiac Northern and Pontiac Central back in the 1980s and 1990s, when those schools were like an assembly line of talent. .

Pontiac Academy of Excellence

NOTABLES: Cancelled the track and field program.

Pontiac Notre Dame Prep

HEAD COACH: Megan Thaler

2011 RECORD: 4-2, 4-2 CHSL-AA Division.

LEAGUE TOURNAMENT FINISH: Third at CHSL meet.

FINAL LEAGUE FINISH: Third in final CHSL-AA Division standings.

COUNTY FINISH: Did not score.

REGIONAL FINISH: Ninth at Division 2 Bloomfield Hills Lahser regional (23 points).

STATE FINALS FINISH: Did not score at Division 2 state finals.

THROWS: Ruairi McGreevy, sr.

SPRINTS: Jacob Romeo, sr. (school record holder in 100).

LONG DISTANCE: Troy Kauffman, jr. (state qualifier in 1,600).

NOTABLES: With some 70 athletes out for the team, this could be an emerging year for this program. There are 35 newcomers, so the Fighting Irish coaching staff is hoping that some diamonds in the rough help make an impact.

Rochester

HEAD COACH: Gary Cousino, fourth season.

2011 RECORD: 3-3, 3-3 OAA Red Division.

LEAGUE TOURNAMENT FINISH: Fifth at OAA Red Division league meet (68 points).

FINAL LEAGUE FINISH: Fourth in final OAA Red Division standings.

COUNTY FINISH: 26th (eight points).

REGIONAL FINISH: Fourth at Division 1 West Bloomfield regional (75 points).

STATE FINALS FINISH: Did not score at Division 1 state finals.

JUMPS: TJ Dean, sr.; Justin Van Dyke, soph.; Jacob Van Dyke, soph.

THROWS: Keaton Hallman, jr.; Ali Kalan, fr.

SPRINTS: Brandon Tyus, sr. (injured last season; state qualifier two years ago); Albert Nemeth, soph.; Cortez Williams, jr. (transfer from Detroit King); Devin Ritchie, jr.; Eddie Alexander, soph. Ian Ganow, soph.; Leikaith Cunningham, jr.; Jalen Saunders, fr.

HURDLES: Sam Johnson, soph.; Matt Byron, soph.

MIDDLE DISTANCE: Riku Higashi, soph.; Connor Ross, soph.; Mark Snyder, jr.; Kyle Reptto, fr.; Tom Massa, fr.; Nash Popovic, fr.; Justin Van Dyke, soph.

LONG DISTANCE: Blake Pozolo, jr. (state qualifier in 3,200); James Shuler, soph.; Dillon Smith, fr.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Dillon Smith, fr.; Ali Kalan, fr.

KEY LOSSES: Elive Likine (hurdles, jumps, sprints); (throws); Marcel Johnson (state qualifier in shot put); Nick Bruewer (throws), Eric Perez, jr. (state qualifier in 400; transferred to Detroit Pershing); Dan Nguyen (jumps), Brian Beecher (state qualifier in 800); Luca Catraro (sprints); Tanner Ellsworth (jumps), Michael Bowery (hurdles), Johnny Pitts (sprints); Jackson Gilbert (distance); Ryan Freeland (distance); Elisha Marshall (throws).

NOTABLES: Rochester took a massive hit by graduation, transfer and even eligibility, which caused the departure of 75 percent of the Falcons’ point scorers from last season. The Falcons won’t have high expectations at all this year, but will lean on a small core of talent and the hopes of quick development of some freshmen and sophomores who will have ample time to step up.

Rochester Adams

HEAD COACH: Eric Lohr, fourth season.

2011 RECORD: 1-5-0, 1-5-0 OAA Red Division.

LEAGUE TOURNAMENT FINISH: Seventh at OAA Red Division league meet (21 points).

FINAL LEAGUE FINISH: Seventh in final OAA Red Division standings (three points).

COUNTY FINISH: 31st (three points).

REGIONAL FINISH: 10th at Division 1 Ortonville Brandon regional (26.5 points).

STATE FINALS FINISH: Did not score at Division 1 state finals.

JUMPS: Randall McAdory, sr.

THROWS: Ian Dvorak, jr.; Lance Dunbar, sr.; Conner Bowers, sr.

SPRINTS: Avery Taylor, jr.; Spencer Ward, sr.; Julian McNeir, jr.; Clarence Broadnax, jr.; Brant Santana, jr.; Adonis Jamison, soph.; Randall McAdory, sr.; Jake Parnell, jr.

HURDLES: Jordan Shive, jr. (injured last season); Andrew Dunbar, jr.

MIDDLE DISTANCE: Adam Boike, sr. (injured last season); Avery Taylor, jr.; Spencer Ward, sr.; Jacob Foor, soph.

LONG DISTANCE: Stephen Biebelhausen, jr.; Conner Stevons, sr.; Dylan Oppenheiser, jr.; Johnny Shepherd, sr.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Julian McNeir, jr.; Clarence Broadnax, jr.; Brant Santana, jr.

KEY LOSSES: Quinton Mack, soph. (transferred); Ben Hollett (hurdles); Aaron Moore (jumps, hurdles); Michael Owusu (hurdles, jumps); Chris Torrence (sprints).

NOTABLES: Adams has hampered by a revolving door of injuries, which included athletes that could have fought for state qualifying berths. This year the bulk of the team is back, plus several newcomers that should step in and fills gaps nicely. Adams won’t win the OAA-Red this season, but shouldn’t finish last either.

Rochester Stoney Creek

HEAD COACH: Paul Duffy, 10th season.

2011 RECORD: 1-4-0, 1-4-0 OAA White Division.

LEAGUE TOURNAMENT FINISH: Sixth at OAA white Division league meet (46 points).

FINAL LEAGUE FINISH: Tied for fifth in final OAA White Division standings (two points).

COUNTY FINISH: Did not score.

REGIONAL FINISH: 13th at Division 1 Ortonville Brandon regional (seven points).

STATE FINALS FINISH: Did not score at Division 1 state finals.

JUMPS: Sean O’Connell, sr.

THROWS: Mike Eldridge, jr.

SPRINTS: Ruiz Rutz, sr.

HURDLES: Jeff Nielson, jr.; Devon Guinn, jr.

MIDDLE DISTANCE: Eli Nasr, sr.; Mike Sheehey, soph.

LONG DISTANCE: Chris Tsivitse, jr.; Conor Boyle, fr.

KEY LOSSES: Michael Reckling, Austin Tretheway, Matt Rolanin, Lewis Mason, Kyle Wesley.

NOTABLES: Stoney Creek suffered through a rebuilding season last season and will field a young team this season. The Cougars are now in the OAA Red Division, which will help their performances but will signal another year of struggles in the win column.

Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest

HEAD COACH: Randy Tyler.

LEAGUE TOURNAMENT FINISH: Third at MIAC league meet (77 points).

FINAL LEAGUE FINISH: Third in final MIAC standings.

COUNTY FINISH: Did not score.

REGIONAL FINISH: Sixth at Division 4 Webberville regional (47 points).

STATE FINALS FINISH: Did not score at Division 4 state finals.

JUMPS: Greg Vandervoord, sr.

SPRINTS: Ryan Gapski, sr. (state qualifier).

HURDLES: Todd Holquist, jr.

MIDDLE DISTANCE: Stephen Ennis, soph. (state qualifier); Alex Irwin, sr. (state qualifier).

LONG DISTANCE: Cameron Santangelo, soph. (state qualifier).

KEY LOSSES: Ryan Joseph (sprints); Zach Friedel (Hurdles, middle distance); Nathan Stolzenfeld (distance).

NOTABLES: With three big-meet performers gone to graduation, the Crusaders are in need of some younger recruits to mature in a hurry if Northwest is to stay near the top of the league and regional standings. Numbers are up to 18 athletes, so the Crusaders hope to have some strength in numbers against other small schools.

Troy

KEY NEWCOMERS: Kunal Tangri, fr.

KEY LOSSES: Corey Myer (throws); James McDonald (sprints); Alex Robinson (jumps).

NOTABLES: Troy shifts to the OAA White Division for central schools in the OAA mega conference and should be among the leaders this season. The Colts lost only a small handful of point scorers and have some athletes substantially better than a year ago.
