KEY LOSSES: Steven Turner, Kevin Pennycook.

NOTABLES: Seven of the top nine golfers from last year return, all seniors, from a squad that enjoyed one of its best seasons in school history, including first-ever district and regional championships. This could become Avondale’s best as they should be one of the better teams in Division 2 in the state this season with an experienced roster.

Auburn Hills Oakland Christian

HEAD COACH: Randy Johnson, 10th season.

2011 RECORD: 21-1, 8-0 MIAC.

LEAGUE TOURNAMENT FINISH: Won MIAC league meet.

FINAL LEAGUE FINISH: Won MIAC overall title.

COUNTY FINISH: Won County D-I title (296).

DISTRICT FINISH: First (316).

KEY NEWCOMERS: Brandon Deletka, sr. (did not play last season); Spencer Haupert, soph. (injured most of last season). Drew Perrin, sr. (All state soccer and track; four-sport athlete).

KEY LOSSES: Nick VanBiesbrouck (All-State First Team); Paul Klemme (transferred); Patrick VanBiesbrouck (transferred); Cullen Burgess (No. 8 golfer); Ryan Hatfield (No. 10 golfer).

NOTABLES: Oakland Christian broke through last season and won their 10th league title in 12 years, but that was only the tip of their success run. The Lancers also captured district and regional titles, finished in the top 10 at several prestigious tournaments became the first Division 4 school to ever won the Oakland County Division I championship and eventually captured their first-ever D-4 state crown. Three of the top five players are back and there is plenty of talent on the squad.

Clarkston

HEAD COACH: Pete Gallaher, third season.

2011 RECORD: 3-3, 2-3 OAA Red Division.

LEAGUE TOURNAMENT FINISH: Third (321); Fifth (331).

FINAL LEAGUE FINISH: Fourth in final OAA-Red standings.

COUNTY FINISH: Eighth at D-I County Tournament (312).

REGIONAL FINISH: Did not qualify.

STATE FINALS FINISH: Did not qualify.

RETURNEES: Jimmy Delnick, sr. (regional qualifier); Jack Alli, jr. (regional qualifier); Dan Corazza, sr.

KEY LOSSES: Andrew Lang, sr. (opted not to play); Ryan Milliken, Chad Wotton, Nathan Cowan, Mac McCleland.

NOTABLES: Clarkston faded down the stretch last season and did not even reach the regional round of the postseason. Five of the top eight golfers return, including two regional qualifiers, so the Wolves should be another team in the talent-laden OAA Red Division slated for a big year.

Clarkston Everest Collegiate- Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes Unified

LEAGUE TOURNAMENT FINISH:

FINAL LEAGUE FINISH:

COUNTY FINISH: 20th at D-II County Tournament (390).

REGIONAL FINISH: Ninth (380).

STATE FINALS FINISH: Did not qualify.

Holly

HEAD COACH: Doug Johnson, first season.

2011 RECORD: 1-7, 1-7 Flint Metro League.

LEAGUE TOURNAMENT FINISH: Eighth at Flint Metro League Tournament (354).

STATE FINALS FINISH: Did not qualify.

RETURNEES: Greg Hooper, sr.; Phil Samson, jr.; Jake Harless, jr.; Austin Miner, jr.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Brett Thompson, jr.; Kyle Pepper, soph.; Austin Moller, soph.; William Moller, soph.; Mitchell Hughes, fr.

KEY LOSSES: Chaz Bowles (All-League First Team; playing at Rochester College); Christian Roberts (All-FML Honorable Mention); Tom Knight; Conner Patterson

NOTABLES: There is a new coach at Holly this season and several new players on a team that struggled in 2011. There will be plenty of opportunity for

Lake Orion

HEAD COACH: Monty Gallaher, 11th season.

2011 RECORD: 6-1, 4-1 OAA Red Division.

LEAGUE TOURNAMENT FINISH: First (310); Fourth (324).

FINAL LEAGUE FINISH: Tied with Rochester Adams for OAA Red Division title.

COUNTY FINISH: 20th at D-I County Tournament (331).

DISTRICT FINAISH: First (326).

REGIONAL FINISH: Fourth (313).

STATE FINALS FINISH: Did not qualify.

RETURNEES: Alex Waelchi, jr.; Mason Gorris, jr.; Tyler Dragoo, sr.; Ryan McKeon, sr.; Griffin Beeler, soph.; Casey VanDerGraaf, jr.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Ben Gorcyca, soph.; Schuyler Werth, fr.

KEY LOSSES: Corbin Rainey.

NOTABLES: Lake Orion came on strong last season and missed the state finals by only a couple of strokes. Now with six of the top seven golfers back on the course, Lake Orion could very well be one of the better teams in Oakland County. In the Dragons’ league, the OAA Red Division, there is exceptional depth, meaning there could be any number of teams winning a league title. By season’s end, expect to see Lake Orion near or at the top of the leaders board at a wide variety of tournaments.

Ortonville Brandon

HEAD COACH: Tony Trupiano.

2011 RECORD: 6-2, 6-2 Flint Metro League.

LEAGUE TOURNAMENT FINISH: Fourth at FML tournament (334).

FINAL LEAGUE FINISH: Third in final FML standings.

COUNTY FINISH: 21st at D-I County (331).

DISTRICT FINISH: Eighth (346).

REGIONAL FINISH: Did not qualify.

STATE FINALS FINISH: Did not qualify.

RETURNEES: Ben Stowers, sr. (All-FML Second Team); Tyler Lewis, jr.; Bruce Bayley, sr.; Brett Loviska, sr.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Jake Selak, jr.; Jake Heath, jr.; Mike Ortel, sr.; David Baldwin, fr.

.KEY LOSSES: Thomas Soave, sr. (All-FML Honorable Mention; regional qualifier); Lyric Nazar, sr.;

NOTABLES: The Blackhawks return four of the top six golfers from last year’s team that finished third overall in the flint Metro League. With some promising newcomers, perhaps this year’s version can finish even higher in the nine-school FML and improve upon last year’s eighth-place showing in a very deep district.

Oxford

HEAD COACH: Terry Kelley, ninth season.

2011 RECORD: 9-0, 6-0 OAA Blue Division.

LEAGUE TOURNAMENT FINISH: Second (323); First (294).

FINAL LEAGUE FINISH: First overall in OAA Blue Division.

COUNTY FINISH: Second at County D-II Tournament (301).

DISTRICT FINISH: Second (328).

REGIONAL FINISH: Third (311).

STATE FINALS FINISH: 10th at Division 1 state finals (319-317–636).

RETURNEES: Nick Hocker, sr.; Nolan Chapman, sr.; J.J. Lewis, soph.; Doug Schultz, soph.; Dave Pearlmann, sr.; JJ Hill, soph.

KEY NEWCOMERS:

KEY LOSSES: Doug Piesko (Saginaw Valley State):Josh Hosking, Cody Collier.

NOTABLES: Oxford is coming off one of its best seasons in school history, winning a league championship, finishing second at the D-II county and advancing out of highly competitive district and regional tournament. At the state finals, the Wildcats finished 10th in D-1, its best finish in decades and first state finals appearance since 1998. Oxford did lose its best golfer to graduation, but should be one of many local teams in the area with legitimate chances to shine at a variety of big tournaments this season and make a return to the state finals.

Pontiac

HEAD COACH:

2011 RECORD: 3-5, 3-5 OAA Gold Division.

LEAGUE TOURNAMENT FINISHES: Fourth at both OAA-Gold league tournaments.

FINAL LEAGUE FINISH: Fourth in final OAA-Gold standings.

COUNTY FINISH: 23rd at county D-II (511).

DISTRICT: Did not compete.

REGIONAL FINISH: Did not qualify.

STATE FINALS FINISH: Did not qualify.

RETURNEES:

KEY NEWCOMERS:

KEY LOSSES:

NOTABLES:

Pontiac Notre Dame Prep

HEAD COACH: Steve Vecellio, first season.

2011 RECORD: 0-5, 0-5 CHSL.

LEAGUE TOURNAMENT FINISH: Sixth at CHSL.

FINAL LEAGUE FINISH: Sixth overall in CHSL.

COUNTY FINISH: 19th at D-I County Tournament (325).

DISTRICT FINISH: Third (321).

REGIONAL FINISH: Third (326).

STATE FINALS FINISH: Tied-fourth at Division 3 state finals (315-319—644).

RETURNEES: Aaron Knutson, sr. (All-State Super Team; D-3 state champion); Mike Risi, jr.; Mitch Wayne, sr.; Jack Peleman, jr.; Danny Craig, sr.; Tyler Jackson, sr.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Three newcomers on roster; Ryan Lesser, fr.

KEY LOSSES: Andrew Wallace.

NOTABLES: With six of the top seven golfers back, including a state champion, plus the arrival of one quality freshman prospects likely means that Notre Dame Prep could be one of the top teams in Division 3 this season. That Fighting Irish could be better in the loaded CHSL this season without actually moving up in the standings. There are several high-quality teams in the league this season.

Rochester

HEAD COACH: Paul Marti, 12th season.

2011 RECORD: 4-3, 3-2 OAA Red Division.

LEAGUE TOURNAMENT FINISHES: Fourth (324); First (311).

FINAL LEAGUE FINISH: Third overall in final standings).

COUNTY FINISH: Sixth at D-I County Tournament (306).

DISTRICT FINISH: Fifth (335).

REGIONAL FINISH: Tied-fourth (313).

STATE FINALS FINISH: Did not qualify.

RETURNEES: Eric Shyu, sr. (fourth-year varsity); Sean O’Malley, sr.; Mike Santivica, sr.; Michael Murri, soph.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Scott DeFillipo, soph.; Ludovic Clavette-Lachapelle, soph.

KEY LOSSES: Paul Woo, Dave Collins, Chris Stewart.

NOTABLES: Rochester has regrouped the past couple of years to become one of the area’s top teams. The Falcons just missed the state cut by only two strokes last June and lost out on a share of the league title by three strokes. Rochester should be one of many area teams eying high finishes at large invitationals and perhaps a state finals berth.

Rochester Adams

HEAD COACH: Dan Picot, sixth season.

2011 RECORD:  6-1, 5-1 OAA Red Division.

LEAGUE TOURNAMENT FINISHES: Second (319); Third (321).

FINAL LEAGUE FINISH: Tied with Lake Orion for first overall in OAA-Red final standings.

COUNTY FINISH: Tied-11th at County D-I Tournament (316).

DISTRICT FINALS: Third (331).

REGIONAL FINISH: Ninth (327).

STATE FINALS FINISH: Did not qualify.

RETURNEES: Ben VanOrman, sr.; Jamie Stanton, sr.; Eric Busa, jr.; Marcus Robinson, jr.; Drew White, jr.; Eric Hund, jr.; Zach Adams, soph.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Brandon Borrows, fr. (nationally-ranked freshman); Cullen Conner, soph.

KEY LOSSES: None.

NOTABLES: There were no seniors and only two juniors on last year’s roster. The youth still aided the Highlanders to a co-league championship and a berth in the regionals. Throw in a nationally-ranked freshman prospect and Adams leaps to the front of teams that could very well play on the final weekend of the season. Expect Adams to be one of the top teams at every tournament this season if they play more consistent than last year.

Rochester Stoney Creek

Rochester Stoney Creek

HEAD COACH: William Slade, fourth season.

2011 RECORD: 4-5, 1-4 OAA Red Division.

LEAGUE TOURNAMENT FINISHES: Fifth (327); Sixth (334).

FINAL LEAGUE FINISH: Sixth overall in final OAA-Red standings.

COUNTY FINISH: First at County D-II Tournament (294).

DISTRICT FINISH: Seventh (340).

REGIONAL FINISH: Did not qualify.

STATE FINALS FINISH: Did not qualify.

RETURNEES: Ryan Jackson, sr.; Michael Doyle, soph. (regional qualifier); Michael Linihan, soph.; Richie Ingle, jr.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Griffin Wright, sr.; Spencer Lendzion, jr.; Aaron Chapie, jr.; Tyler Ducharme, jr.

KEY LOSSES: Robby Szymanski, Matt Benner, Al Brickmann.

NOTABLES: Four of the top seven players return and that bodes well for Stoney Creek, which struggled at times last season competing in a hot-pocket of talented teams. Doyle was a regional qualifier last season and is slated for a big year, while the Cougars only count two seniors in their top eight, meaning most of this team will be intact for at least two more seasons.

Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest

HEAD COACH: Jimmy Mehlberg, second season.

2011 RECORD: 8-8, 5-3 MIAC.

LEAGUE TOURNAMENT FINISH: Not available.

FINAL LEAGUE FINISH: Third in MIAC final standings.

COUNTY FINISH:  Did not compete.

DISTRICT FINISH: Fifth (367).

REGIONAL FINISH: Third (353).

STATE FINALS FINISH: 14th at D-4 state finals (370-380–750).

RETURNEES: Jameson Collar, jr. (43 avg.); Justin Tignanelli, jr.; Austin Kindsvater, sr.

KEY NEWCOMERS: There are two freshmen and six newcomers on the roster this season.

KEY LOSSES: Spencer Frania, Tom Miller.

NOTABLES: Numbers have increased from five to nine players this season, and part of that was the Crusaders surprising the regional field last season with a third-place finish. With three of the top five players back, plus a pair of promising freshmen, Northwest could very well be one of the better teams in the MIAC and contend for regional and state finals passes once again.

Troy

HEAD COACH: John Getzan, sixth season.

2011 RECORD: 2-4, 1-4 OAA Red Division.

LEAGUE TOURNAMENT FINISH: Sixth (329); Second (314).

FINAL LEAGUE FINISH: Fifth in final OAA-Red standings.

COUNTY FINISH: Tied-11th at D-I County Tournament (316).

DISTRICT FINISH: First (307).

REGIONAL FINISH: First (306).

STATE FINALS FINISH: 14th at Division 1 state finals (324-335–659).

RETURNEES: Jeff Holmes, sr. (82 avg. 39 avg.); Brett St. Cyr, sr. (86 avg.43 avg.); James Heichel, jr.; (80 avg., 42 avg.); Christian Harnishfeger, soph. (81 avg., 37 avg.)

KEY NEWCOMERS: Four newcomers vying for spots.

KEY LOSSES: J.R. Graham, Anthony D’Amico, Evan Hill,

NOTABLES: Troy came on strong the second half of last season and surprisingly captured a runner-up slot in the second league tournament, followed by wins at the district and regional tournaments. The Colts return four of the top seven players, three which played at the district and regional level. This team potentially could be a highly-competitive team down the stretch this season of a couple of consistent players can be plugged into the top five.

Troy Athens

HEAD COACH: Dale Rahn, Dan Cooper.

2011 RECORD: 9-2, 6-2 OAA Blue Division.

LEAGUE TOURNAMENT FINISHES: Fourth (332); Second (307).

FINAL LEAGUE FINISH: Tied for second in final OAA-Blue Division standings.

COUNTY FINISH: Sixth at D-II County Tournament (324).

REGIONAL FINISH: Eighth (324).

STATE FINALS FINISH: Did not qualify.

RETURNEES: Jason Wang, sr.; Jon Woo, sr.; Cam Maciejewski, sr.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Bryan Lawson, soph.; Arkadiusz Wojcik, jr.

KEY LOSSES: Jamie Cattran, James VanNoord, Chris Dye, David Farnum, Steven Pawlak.

NOTABLES: Three of the top six players are back from a team that finished second in its league and reached the regional round of the postseason, although the team’s top two golfers departed by graduation. This team will need several newcomers to help plug in some holes if Athens is to equal or come close to its accomplishments of last season.
