Auburn Hills Avondale

HEAD COACH: Dave Muczynski, 19th season.

2011 RECORD: 15-7-0, 6-4-0 OAA Red Division (fourth).

2011 STATE TOURNAMENT: Defeated Birmingham Marian (1-0 in a shootout in district opener; lost to Madison Heights Lamphere (1-0) in district semifinals.

RETURNING STARTERS: Madison Duncan, soph. F (All-State Third Team, All-Area Second Team); Alyssa Chapman, soph. F; Jessie Creech, jr. D; Jessica Angell, sr. D/M; Madi Donaghy, soph. D/M.

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Tori Koontz, soph. M; Lauren Kroninger, sr. D; Michelle Krupa, soph. M; Sarah Sonego, jr. M; Michelle Krupa, soph. G/M.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Tailor Mathes, soph. M; Colleen Vincent, jr. M; Ginny Vincent, jr. D; Alyssa Smith fr. D; Allison Hartman, fr. D; Abby Oliver, jr. G.

KEY LOSSES: Regina Nofs, S; Alyssa Johns, D; Rachel Sonego, D; Andrea Strauss, G (All-State; All-Area First Team); Xaidai Ruiz, M.

NOTABLES: Avondale lost three of its starting defenders and an All-State goalkeeper, causing some concerns and some lineup juggling this season. After a 0-2 start, Avondale is trying to put together a new defense and trying to find a replacement to Strauss, one of the school’s all-time best goalkeepers, between the pipes. Avondale does have some offensive talent, but may take its lumps early in the season trying to plus several holes left by graduation.

Auburn Hills Oakland Christian

HEAD COACH: Dick Harding, seventh season (non-consecutive).

2011 RECORD: Not available.

STATE TOURNAMENT: Defeated Pontiac Academy of Excellence (14-0) and New Haven (9-0); lost to Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes in Division 4 district finals (8-0).

RETURNING STARTERS: Darcy Johnston, sr. M (signed with Grace, Ind.) Rachel TerMarsch, sr. M: Sam Woloson, sr. M; Tori Johns, soph. F; Faith Lieder, sr. D; Shelby Webb, sr. M.

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Erin Washington, jr. M; Madi Bottoaux, soph. G; Chyenne Witt, soph. M; Savanah Bell, soph. D.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Marceloa Compeau, soph. F.

KEY LOSSES: Taylor McKenna, D.

NOTABLES: After a one-year hiatus, Dick Harding is back to help move the Lancers back out of the rebuilding mode and back to the level of respectability. This team should be able to move up in the MIAC standings this season as most of the key players are back.

Clarkston

HEAD COACH: Sarah Wasilk, seventh season.

2011 RECORD: 9-8-3, 1-6-3 OAA Red Division (10th).

2011 STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Division 1 district finals to Rochester Adams (6-1).

RETURNING STARTERS: Sarah McCallum, sr. D; Taylor Stokes, sr. D (currently injured); Caitlin Kirby, sr. M; (All-District); Chelsea Chase, sr. D; Lisa Lyons, sr.  F (All-District); Lindsey Adams, sr. F (All-District; signed with University of Indianapolis).

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Katie Miller, jr. G; Morgan Todd, jr. M (currently injured); Sam Messer, soph. M; Lindsey Renkiewicz, jr. M; Andrea Dumais, sr. F.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Alexis Shamoun, fr. M.

KEY LOSSES: Jackie Gipe, D/G; Mikayla Ferer, sr. F (injured; All-State Honorable Mention in 2010; played in four games last season); Andrea Butler, D; Kaylee Liddle, D.

NOTABLES: Clarkston suffered through some injury issues last season, which ate into its offensive production after posting its best-ever season in 2010. The Wolves already have three players out with injuries which could again have an impact. This team is far from where it was at five years ago, but will it have enough to climb up a few rungs in the talent-laden OAA-Red and finally get over the district hump?

Clarkston Springfield Christian

HEAD COACH:

2011 RECORD:

2011 STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in first round of MACS state tournament.

RETURNING STARTERS:

OTHER KEY RETURNEES:

KEY NEWCOMERS:

KEY LOSSES:

NOTABLES:

Holly

HEAD COACH: Mike Steibel, seventh season.

2011 RECORD: 10-10-1, 5-2-1 Flint Metro League (third).

2011 STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Division 2 district finals to Linden (4-0).

RETURNING STARTERS: Natalie Cieslak, sr. F; Kayla Skopek, sr. F; Paige Walsh, sr. M; Ellie Curtis, soph. G.

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: There are 10 players who saw time off the bench last season that are returning.

KEY NEWCOMERS: There are four newcomers on the roster this season vying for playing time.

KEY LOSSES: The Bronchos graduated seven starters.

NOTABLES: The good news for Holly coach Mike Steibel is that 14 letterwinners return. The bad news is that seven starters were lost from a team that finished third in its league and reached the district finals. The Bronchos opened with an 8-1 loss to perennial power Troy Athens, signaling that if could take time for this unit to come together. A league championship run is possible, but a likely lengthy tournament stay is unlikely for this group.

Lake Orion

HEAD COACH: Randy McCoy, first season.

2011 RECORD: 7-8-2, 2-7-1 OAA Red Division (ninth).

2011 STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Division 1 district opener to Waterford Kettering (3-1).

RETURNING STARTERS: Katy Wagner, sr. M (signed Oakland; hurt second half of last season); Haley Barnes, sr. G (singed with Adrian College); Katy Rohlfs, sr. D; Hannah Kish, jr. M; Courtney Cox, sr. D; Sarah Quattrochi, sr. D.

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Angela Noll, sr. D; Caitlin Auspitz, jr. F/M; Carlie Deyton, jr. F/M; Kaitlyn McNairnie, sr. F.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Hannah Cady, fr. F (U.S. National ID camps invitee);
Emily Purdy, fr. G (state and regional ODP pool player); Nicole Krier, soph. M;
Arleigh Zimmerman, fr. F.

KEY LOSSES: Megan Malloy, D; Shannon Inglis, D; Jessica Pfister, sr. M ((injured; out for year); Maddie Hutchinson, M (injured; out for year); Alyssa Wesley, D (All-Area Second Team).

NOTABLES: In former coach Ken Snage’s final season with the Dragons in 2011, Lake Orion was hit hard with injuries, with a revolving door of starters and reserves in and out of the lineup. Lake Orion never came close during the second half of the season to play with its top 11 players. This season there are already two players lost due to injury, but the Dragons will compensate with six returning starters, four reserves from last year’s team and as many as nine freshmen who could spell time on varsity, including two highly-touted prospects. It may take some time for the Dragons to get acclimated, but this team could become a sleeper pick if the talent comes together as a unit.

Lake Orion Baptist

HEAD COACH: Michael French, third season.

2011 RECORD: 4-8-0, 2-6-0 FBAC (fourth).

2011 STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in MACS opener to Rochester Hills Christian (8-0).

RETURNING STARTERS: Abigail Brennan, soph. F; Katie Brundage, sr. F; Kaleigh Cameron, sr. D; Sarah Crawford, sr. M; Kim Fisher, soph. D; Hannah Harris, sr. D; Emily Lohnes, sr. M; Kara Sanders, sr. M; Jill Streetman, sr. G.

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Rachel Brundage, fr.; Cameron McKenna, fr.; Angie Cone, fr.; Megan Crawford, fr.; Lauren Guba, jr.; Kelsey MacDonald, soph.; Noelle Streetman, soph.; Hannah Wixom, soph.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Keana Specht, soph.; Shelby Mcguire, fr.

KEY LOSSES: Megan Jenkins, M; Julina Moreno, D.

NOTABLES: After finishing well under five hundred and in fourth place in the FBAC last season, the Lions are hoping to see mass improvement on the pitch this season with the return of nine starters and eight reserves of last season’s team.

Ortonville Brandon

HEAD COACH: Dennis Shannon.

2011 RECORD: 5-12-2, 1-7-0 Flint Metro League (eighth).

2011 STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Division 1 district opener to Rochester Stoney Creek (4-0).

RETURNING STARTERS: Bridget O’Shea, sr. M (third-year starter, All-League Second Team; 3.95 GPA); Kaitlyn Clark, sr. G (third-year starter);Amanda Greco, sr. M (third-year starter); Kaitlyn Burdge, sr. F; Andrea Banner, jr. D (honorable mention all-league); Alyssa Sebring, jr. D (honorable mention all-league) McKenna Wagner, jr. D; Madison Puleo, soph. M.

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Katie Massa, sr. D.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Danni Hart, soph. M; Gabby Mathes, soph. M; Sam Bageris, fr. D; Cassy Perna, fr. F; Sierra Dickens, fr. M; Alanna Carpenter, jr. F; Hanna Lovelace, soph. M; Natasha Krivak, soph. D.

KEY LOSSES: Katie Donnay, M; Lara Bede, D.

NOTABLES: The Blackhawks suffered through a major rebuilding campaign last season but should fare better this season with the return of eight starters. There are several strong freshmen and sophomore candidates that should fill in some gaps and add depth. A climb back towards the five-hundred mark and respectability is a definite possibility with this group.

Oxford

HEAD COACH: Larry Ferris, third season.

2011 RECORD: 8-5-3, 7-1-3 OAA White Division (third).

2011 STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Division 1 district opener to Clarkston (3-2).

RETURNING STARTERS: Heather Lafnear, sr. M (currently injured); Sara Ruch, sr. D/M (signed with Marygrove College); Ellen Saville, sr. D; Paige Brinker, sr. D; Brianna Johnson, sr. M (signed with Aquinas College); Chelsea Johnson, sr. M (signed with Wayne State for track and field); Marina Ibarra, jr. M; Samantha Medici, soph. M.

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Emme Richmond, jr. M; Alana Carroll, jr. F/D.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Darien Bandel, soph. G; Melissa Gierak, fr. F; Shelby Hruska, jr. M; Samantha Pastewski, soph. F/D; Alora McCoy, soph. F; Janelle Zucarro, jr. D; Haley Hill, soph. F; Kaetlyn Ulinski, soph. M/D; Sabrina Doslak, fr. D.

KEY LOSSES: Amanda Roth, M (All-OAA; All-Area Second Team); Beth Downs, M; Sarah Stroupe, G (All-OAA; All-Area Second Team).

NOTABLES: Oxford faired reasonably well last season in its first year in the OAA, finishing third in the White Division. The Wildcats return eight starters and welcome some promising newcomers into the fold as they will try to go after their first OAA title; The Wildcats already own a lopsided win over last year’s OAA white champion West Bloomfield (8-1).

Pontiac

HEAD COACH:

2011 RECORD: x-x-x, 0-11-0 OAA White Division (12th).

Pontiac Notre Dame Prep

HEAD COACH: Jimmy Stachura, fourth season.

2011 RECORD: 14-5-0, 8-2-0 CHSL-AA Division (first); lost in CHSL semifinals.

2011 STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Division 3 district semifinals to Birmingham Detroit Country Day (3-0).

RETURNING STARTERS: Jenn Klei, sr. F (leading scorer as a sophomore, injured much of last season); Ana Gomez, sr. F (transfer from England last season; All-League and All-District; committed to Olivet College); Savannah Baumgart, jr. D (All-League and All-District); Alex Arnoldy, jr. G (All-District); Taylor Timko, soph. F/M (24 goals as freshman; All-State Honorable Mention; All-League).

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Ava Healy, sr. D; Lindsay Klei, soph. F (scored nine goals in nine games last season); Lauren Gunterman, soph. D; Erica Siatczynski, soph. D; Mackenzie Fahr, jr. M/F; Leah McGrail, jr. M; Bella Galloway, soph. F; Bridget Parise, soph. M (injured all of last season).

KEY NEWCOMERS: Sarah Mazur, fr. M; Sarah Pieciak, fr. D; Megan Bricely, fr. G; Anna Terzano, jr. D; Taylor Stinson, jr. M/F.

KEY LOSSES: Katrina Stencel, D (currently playing at Oakland); Lauren Jbara, M (Playing club soccer at Michigan); Taylor Aiello, M (playing club soccer at Michigan); Alex Genord, D.

NOTABLES: Notre Dame Prep returns a bulk of its talent and inherits a couple of players that sat out with injuries last season. A total of 13 returning letterwinners coupled with a strong freshman class should make the Fighting Irish one of the best teams in all of the CHSL and a likely top-10 team in the state in Division 3.

Rochester

HEAD COACH: Cliff, Brandmier, first season.

2011 RECORD: 12-6-2, 5-4-1 OAA Red Division (fifth).

2011 STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Division 1 district finals to Troy Athens (1-0).

RETURNING STARTERS: Maria Lepore, sr. D (All-State in cross-country); Abby Rawling, sr. F; Mckenzie Chilcote, sr. D; Maddie Chilcote, jr. M; Sofia Farah, jr. M (leading scorer with 10 goals last season); Jenna Maletzke, jr. D; Jenny Goethals, jr. M/F (hurt most of last season).

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Danielle Harm , sr. M; Lindsey Larivee, sr. D; Colleen Boreo, sr. F/M; Stephanie Heber, jr. G; Sarah Egbert, jr. M; Emily Diener, sr. D (hurt most of last season); Aubrey Konal, jr. F (scored eight goals last season).

KEY NEWCOMERS: Ellie Grupenhoff, fr. D. Maddie Moote, soph. M.

KEY LOSSES: Jessica Nieman, D (All-State Honorable Mention; South Dakota);Laura Ivezaj, G (Saginaw Valley State; All-State); Sara Sikorski, M.

NOTABLES: Todd Heugh, who coached Rochester from 2000-2011, moved over to his alma mater Troy Athens, allowing Brandmier to make the shift from Berkley to Rochester to coach a team that returns a bulk of its roster. Rochester is expected to finish in the top half of the rugged OAA-Red this season, although not likely a title contender. The one area the Falcons lack is a super-star player, but that could also play into Rochester’s hands. This will be a defensive-minded team that nobody will want to play in the postseason, as it has another strong goalkeeper in a long line of standouts and only lost three key players off last year’s team. The Falcons may not score a ton of goals, but don’t expect them to give much up either.

Rochester Adams

HEAD COACH: Aaron Donaghy, fourth season.

2011 RECORD: 14-3-3, 8-1-1 OAA Red Division (second).

2011 STATE TOURNAMENT: District champions; lost in Division 1 regional semifinals to Troy (3-0).

RETURNING STARTERS: Merlin Beckwith, sr. M; Hannah Lee, sr. M; Lauren Boyle, sr. D; Maddie Christiensen, sr. D; Kylie Nylen, sr. M (signed with Western Michigan); Kelsey Treanore, sr. D; Mackenzie Barber, sr. F; Allison Reed, jr. F; Tiffany Buckler, soph. D.

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Jessie Brown, sr. M; Julie Genouw, sr. M; Amy Heidel, sr. D; Lexi Lewandowski, sr. G/D; Rachel Wehbe, jr. M; Shannon McDevitt, soph. M.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Nikki Pesecki, sr; Megan Ruedisueli, sr.; Lara Laderosa, jr.; Katie Milke, jr.; Martha Ridgway, jr. G; Julia Rogers, jr.; Jenny Rosonke, soph.

KEY LOSSES: Brittany Buckler, D; Macy Houghtlin, F; Jessica Wineke, G; Rachel Lamb, D.

NOTABLES: A disappointing exit last season against Troy, where the Highlanders seemed overmatched after reaching the Final Four in 2010, has left a bitter taste in the mouths for those around the program; the goal is to make a run similar to to two years ago; this always-talented program is expected to be one of the state’s premier teams in this state this season, regardless of division, thanks to the return of most of its varsity roster. If Adams make a return trip to the Final Four, it will not be a surprise, either will playing on the final day of the season.

Rochester Stoney Creek

HEAD COACH: Bryan Mittlestadt, second season.

2011 RECORD: 12-7-0, 5-5-0 OAA Red Division (sixth).

2011 STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Division 1 district semifinals to Rochester Adams (4-0).

RETURNING STARTERS: Joanie Seija, sr. M (committed to Oakland University; All- League, All-District; All-Area Second Team); Lauren Bolhuis, sr. D (committed to Florida Institute of Technology); Hannah Darin, jr. F/M; Carina Wilden, soph. M; Sydney Inscho, soph. D; Halee Michel, soph. G.

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Alexa Joh, jr. M; Cierra Inscho, jr. M.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Cat Mechler, jr. F; Maddy Schupbach, soph. M/F; Carly Harvey, fr. D; Maddie Toth, fr. D; Maria Zandi, fr. D; Jamie Midgley, fr. F; Alliison Markaity, fr. M.

KEY LOSSES: Maddie Michaels, D; Kelsie Darin, D.

NOTABLES: If this team gels before the end of the season, look out. Most of the roster is back and the Cougars have a long-anticipated, stellar freshman class that should keep them in the upper echelon of the OAA-Red and beyond for the forseeable future. Stoney Creek could emerge as a top-10 team later this season and will likely be a threat to make a long postseason run next season, if not sooner.

Rochester Hills Christian

HEAD COACH: Jerry Slota, 16th season.

2011 RECORD: 11-3-2, 7-1-0 FBAC (tied-first).

2011 STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in MACS state finals to Troy Bethany Christian (1-0).

RETURNING STARTERS: Allise Dubay, sr. M (all-league).

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Courtney Patton, fr. D; Jenna Porter, fr. D; Brooke Adams, jr. D; Cayla Carr, soph. M; Alex Parker, jr. M (injured most of last season); Ally Ashcraft, jr. D.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Ashley Parker, fr. M; Jillian Porter, soph. G; Rachel Funn, soph. M; Veronica Cowan, fr. M.

KEY LOSSES: Caroline Milsk, D (all-league); Jane Crile, D/M (all-league); Sandra Mikail, M; Ashley Baker, F; Megan Steiner, G; Christie Steiner, D.

NOTABLES: The Eagles posted one of their best seasons in school history last spring, recording a school record for wins, sharing the league championship and playing in their very first MACS state final. RHC is slated for a rebuilding campaign in 2012, as 14 players graduated, including 10 starters. The team does have one of the best players in the FBAC and MACS in Dubay, but will play the first week of the state tournament without any of its only senior and a likely chance of returning to the state finals is minimal. Most of the team 15-player roster is freshman and sophomores and the youth has shown so far this season. The Eagles opened the season with a 9-1 loss to Troy Bethany.

Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest

HEAD COACH: Tony Chila, first season.

2011 RECORD: 9-8-0, 3-7-0 MIAC Blue Division.

2011 STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Division 4 district opener to Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes (9-1).

RETURNING STARTERS: Megan Hamilton, sr. M; Haylee Luedtke, sr. M; Kallie Washburn, sr. D; Abbey Looker, sr. M; Megan Rousso, jr. M.

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: There are 11 sophomores on the team, several which played last season.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Heila Charen, fr. F; Laura Doede, jr. S (transfer).

KEY LOSSES: Jillian McLoughlin, D; Kim Lepor, sr. M (opted not to play).

NOTA BLES: Two years removed from a rare league title, Northwest hopes to step up a rung and compete with the elite teams in the MIAC this season. There is plenty of experience here with 13 returning players and five seniors. There is also one key transfer, 11 sophomores and a pair of quality freshmen that could help this team climb the latter in the MIAC-Blue. Chila has over 30 years of experience playing soccer and coaching at the club level. He hopes to influence his knowledge into a youthful and hungry team that has become much more competitive the past four years.

Troy

HEAD COACH: Brian Zawislak, fourth season.

2011 RECORD: 20-3-2, 7-1-2 OAA Red Division (third).

2011 STATE TOURNAMENT: Won district and regional titles last season; lost in Division 1 state finals to Novi (1-0).

RETURNING STARTERS: Alison Holland, jr. G (All-State First Team, All-Area first Team; committed to University of Memphis; set several school records last season); Rachel Shamoun, sr. D; Jamie Hawkey, jr. D; Erin Wrubel, jr. M (committed to Ohio University); Jennifer Busk, sr. M (committed to College of St. Rose, D-II National Champ); Jenna Cabelof, soph. M; Madison Hirsch, jr. F (committed to Eastern Michigan University); Irene Young, sr. F (All-State First Team, All-State Dream Team; led OAA in scoring last season; committed to University of Louisville; 2012 Miss Soccer candidate).

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Alyssa Cabelof, sr. D; Amelia Troccoli, sr. F; Maddie Watts, sr. D; Nadine Bratu, jr. D; Sara Wideman, jr. M; Kayla Porter, jr. M; Phylisha Drayton, soph. F; Brittany Guitar, jr. D.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Sarah Troccoli, fr. M; Grace Goodrich, jr. M; Addison Bouzide, fr. G; Haley Shoan, jr. G.

KEY LOSSES: Emily Dzik, D (All-State First Team); Erin Farley, M (All-State Honorable Mention).

NOTABLES: Troy put it all together last season and finished as the state runner-up. With eight returning starters and 16 total returnees back, there is every indication that Troy might just be the team to beat heading into the 2012 campaign. This team has a Miss Soccer candidate, one of the state’s better goalkeepers, several players that have signed, committed or are being recruited to play in college and exceptional depth at every position. On paper, this could be one of Troy’s best teams to date.

Troy Athens

HEAD COACH: Todd Heugh, first season.

2011 RECORD: 19-3-0, 9-1-0 OAA Red Division (first).

2011 STATE TOURNAMENT: District champions; lost in Division 1 regional semifinals to Utica Eisenhower (3-2) in shootout.

RETURNING STARTERS: Liz Abro, jr. M (verbally committed to Western Michigan); Gabby Mancini, jr. D/M (verbally committed to Eastern Michigan); Natalie Sabourin, sr. M/F.

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Danielle Cooper, sr. G; Rachel Senepole, sr. D (Olivet College); Erin Carmona, sr. M; Morgan Behn, jr. D; Rachel Martens, jr. M; Kendall Wachowski, soph. F; Alyssa Cowper, soph. M.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Monica Gorski, sr. D (did not play last season; being recruited); Kristin Carney, sr. F/M (transfer from Fayetteville, N.C.); Lauren Lewis, jr. M; Simmi Grewal, jr. D; Val Vulaj, jr. D; Morgan Duncan, jr. G; Amelia Linska, soph. D; Quinn Bezenah, soph. M/D; Shannon Birney, fr. M.

KEY LOSSES: Olivia Brannon, M (2011 Miss Soccer, ODP National Team; now playing at Virginia); Jenna O’Dell, G (Iowa State; All-State; All-Area First Team); Marissa Kozikowski, D (Eastern Michigan; All-Area First Team; All-State Honorable Mention); Leah Schmitz, F (Eastern Michigan); Haley Svrcina, D (Indiana Wesleyan).

NOTABLES: The big headlines last summer was that veteran Tim Storch was retiring from teaching and coaching at Troy Athens after 30 years of dedicated service and nine state titles between boys and girls soccer. His replacement search was short, as 1990 Athens grad Todd Heugh has shifted over to replace him. Heugh, who has coached at Rochester for more than a decade, including a state title with the Rochester boys program in 2002, and has coached for many years in the Vardar club system, inherits a program rich in tradition but with many holes to fill. There are only a handful of players that saw meaningful minutes last season back. The cupboard, however, is not bare and soccer fans can expect to see the Red Hawks in top form, especially defensively, by the season’s end.

Troy Bethany Christian

HEAD COACH: Theresa Clarke, third season.

2011 RECORD: 9-3-0, 7-1-0 FBAC (tied-first).

2011 STATE TOURNAMENT:Defeated Rochester Hills Christian (1-0) for MACS state title

RETURNING STARTERS: Anna Tomkowiak, sr. M (All-League; committed to Spring Arbor University); Sarah Tomkowiak, jr. D (All-League); Joy Lampert, sr. G (All-League); Jessica Oja, sr. F/M; Natalie Steenbergh, sr. F; Carolyn Grassi, sr. M/F; Rebecca Ward, sr. F.

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Rachel Waldrup, sr. D/M; Michelle Tremper, jr. D/G; Staci Green, sr. D.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Marisa Brewer, fr. F; Kristen Dongon, fr. M; Alejandra Blake, fr. M; Erica Clarke, fr. M; Rebecca Paye, soph. M/D.

KEY LOSSES: Sarah Davis, M/D; Katie Schultz, D.

NOTABLES: The Bruins have won the MACS state title in five of the past six seasons, including last year, and there are reasons to believe that the Bruins will contend again with seven starters and several key reserves back in uniform. This is a senior-heavy team where eight seniors on the roster. Offensively, the team is led by Anna Tomkowiak (leading scorer with 19 goals last year) and Jessica Oja (16 goals last season). Sarah Tomkowiak heads the defense, while contributing offensively as needed (13 goals last season). Joy Lambert returns for her fourth year as starting goalkeeper, after shutting out Rochester Hills Christian in last year’s MACS state title game (1-0). The Bruins will likely join Davison Faith Baptist and Clinton Township Faith Christian as the top teams statewide in the MACS this season.

.

Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes-Clarkston Everest Collegiate Unified

HEAD COACH: Kathleen Hearn, first season.

2011 RECORD: 17-1-1, 8-0-0 CHSL-Intersectional Division (first place); defeated Riverview Gabriel Richard for first CHSL Tournament title.

2011 STATE TOURNAMENT: District champs; lost in Division 4 regional finals to Saginaw Nouvel Catholic (3-0).

RETURNING STARTERS: Ava Doestch, jr. F (All-State First Team; All-Area First Team); Jessica Parry, jr. M; Anna Robb, soph. F; Gabrielle Troy, jr. D.

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Allie Albright, sr. D; Leah Lambertson, sr. G.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Claire Lasceski, fr. D; Shelby Mann, fr. D; Megan Luttinen, soph. G; Rachelle Topolewski, fr. M.

KEY LOSSES: Meghan Topolewski, M (Toledo; All-State First Team; All-Area First Team); Abigail Troy, D (All-State Second Team; All-Area Second Team); Chantelle Ludwig, G (All-State Second Team; All-Area Second Team).

NOTABLES: The Lakers enter their fifth season of girls soccer already owning a state title in 2010 and have been a mainstay in the top 10 the past three years. This season Hearn replaces Rich Ludwig as head coach and the squad with many holes to fill. Yet there is enough holdover talent and plenty of promising newcomers that should keep this thriving program amongst the Division 4 elite.
