WEDNESDAY’S SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Rochester, Lake Orion post twinbill split; Clarkston, Troy post sweeps

ROCHESTER HILLS — Rochester and Lake Orion failed to gain the upper edge on one another, as the two split their OAA crossover softball twinbill Wednesday.

Rochester won the opener, 8-2, with Lake Orion taking the nightcap, 9-2.

In Game 1, Rochester collected 11 hits and scored five runs in the fourth and three more in the seventh. Maggie Irvine was 2-for-4, Mackenzie Duff was 2-for-3 and Courtney Haupt belted an RBI two-run triple for Rochester (1-1).

Haley Lenderman gained the win from the circle, going seven innings while allowing seven hits.

Lake Orion gained the slit with the decisive win in the nightcap. The Dragons (1-1) scored four in the first two frames, then tacked on five more runs in the fifth.

Natalie Graham had two RBI for the Dragons (1-1) while she also had the pitching win for Lake Orin.

Maggie Irvine had a double and Emily Smith was 1-for-2 for Rochester.

CLARKSTON 9-6, ROCHESTER ADAMS 0-0: Clarkston opened with seven runs in the first three innings to take Game 1.

Sydney Hasselbach counted a home run among her three hits and finished with three RBI to lead the Wolves (2-0). Megan Hastings added three hits, a triple and an RBI, while Terra Perry had two doubles and a single.

Madelein Maday was the pitcher of record, striking out 10 while allowing only two hits.

In the nightcap, Perry added three hits, the same amount as Hasselbach, who drove in five runs. The Wolves scored single runs in the first two innings, tacked on two in the third and added single runs in the fourth and sixth frames.

Candice Kitchen struck out three, walked one and gave u only four hits for Clarkston.

TROY 8-11, WEST BLOOMFIELD 3-1: Troy posted this OAA crossover sweep by outscoring the Lakers 19-4 in the two games.

In the opener, Troy (2-0) built a 7-3 lead through three innings, then added an eighth run in the fourth. Kamryn LaCarter had three hits and an RBI, while Laney Harty supplied an RBI and three hits. Katy Krajenta struck out six and walked three while allowing just three hits.

In the nightcap, Troy led just 2-0 through three innings, before erupting for nine runs over the next three frames. Krajenta was 4-for-4, Hart finished 3-for-4 and added three RBI, and Ashley Messina also drove in a run and finished 4-for-4 for the Colts.

Pitching-wise, Cori Mittelbrun scattered four hits over six innings, striking out two against just one walk.
