PREP BASEBALL: Stoney Creek outduels Adams; Oakland Christian tames Lutheran North

ROCHESTER HILLS — Zak Northrup pitched seven scoreless innings and Rochester Stoney Creek remained atop of the OAA Red Division standings with a 1-0 shutout of Rochester Adams Monday.

The Cougars (9-3, 3-0) scored their sole run in fourth inning when Jake Kruk provided an RBI single to back Northrup’s fine pitching performance. Niko Gonzales was 3-for-3 for the Cougars.

Northrup gave up just one hit, walked two and struck out seven for Stoney Creek.

Shaun Beyer pitched six innings for Adams (4-4, 0-3) but suffered the loss on an eight-hitter with four strikeouts.

AUBURN HILLS OAKLAND CHRISTIAN 10, MACOMB LUTHERAN NORTH 4: Stu Sutherland went 6 2/3 to pick up the win on the mound to lead the Lancers to the non-league win. Josh Gudobba led the game off with a home run, Jake Vandervenet had two doubles and two RBI and Rafael Eigenmann was 3-for-3 with one RBI for Oakland Christian.

AUBURN HILLS AVONDALE 5, TROY 1: Avondale knocked off Troy in this contest featuring OAA Blue Division co-leaders. Joe Davison led Avondale (7-3, 3-0) by going 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored. Mitch Robinson also scored a run, finished 2-for-4 and had an RBI and A.J. Susick went the distance on the mound, allowing four hits, one earned run, no walks and four strikeouts. John Wassel struck out three, walked three and gave up six hits and five runs in taking the loss for Troy (6-3, 2-1). Joe Provenzano was 1-for-3 and scored the sole run for the Colts.

LAKE ORION 12, ROCHESTER 1 (5 innings): Lake Orion opened the game with a 5-0 first inning and cruised from there in this OAA Red Division win. Roman Kuster led a balanced attack by going 2-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored for the Dragons (7-3, 3-0). Jake Gardner added two RBI and scored a run and Brad Schaenzer pitched a five-hitter with 12 strikeouts and only two walks for Lake Orion. Mike Tobin slammed a pair of doubles for Rochester.

OXFORD 10, CLARKSTON 8: Oxford won just one league game all of last season but matched that total in the early going with this two-run win Monday over host Clarkston. Ryan Kitching was 2-for-4 at the plate and scored three times for the Wildcats (2-5). Kyle Hartwick added two hits and an RBI and Nate Brubaker plated one run, scored three times and provided two hits for Oxford (2-5, 1-2), which took a 7-6 lead after three innings and held on for the win. Dylan Peck had a monster game with a double, triple and three runs scored for Clarkston (1-2, 1-2).

ROYAL OAK 6, TROY ATHENS 3: Chad Skarjune struck out seven and scattered just three hits in leading the Ravens to this OAA Blue Division win. Joel Gorbold had a two-run double for Royal Oak. Grant Sweeney took the loss for Athens despite giving up just three hits with four punchouts.

ORTONVILLE BRANDON 7-8, GOODRICH 5-9: Neighboring rivals Goodrich and Brandon settled little Monday with this non-league twinbill split. In Game 1, Jake Sutherland pitched five innings to gain the win on the mound, striking out six, walking two and scattering seven hits and four earned runs. Zack Fernandez was 2-for-2, and scored twice, while Michael Tagliavia finished 2-for-3, had a triple among his two hits and drove in three runs for Brandon (8-5), which scored three times in the top of the seventh to prevail. The Martians bounced back in the nightcap to win in six innings. Jack Hranec was 3-for-4 and drove in three runs for Brandon.
